James Elliott reviews
Best meat I've had for years. Staff were very helpful. A large selection of homemade sausages.
by charles 2, 21 Mar 2007I started using James Elliott a few weeks ago. I live in SE London but no longer have a decent butchers within easy reach, so as I work in Islington I thought I would give them a try (they were recommended by a vegetarian friend!). I have had lamb, pork and beef from them and they are all suberb - meat like it used to (and should) taste. They are perhaps a little expensive, but I would rather pay more and know that what I'm eating is great. I would recommend them to anyone. I wouldn't even consider buying meat from anywhere else now. Give them a try - you won't regret it!
by AndreaJefford, 05 Dec 2006Excellent master butcher. We pre-ordered a huge rack of pork for a Sunday roast and it was trimmed to perfection, ready and waiting the next weekend. The pork was beautiful, so succulent.
by Charger, 15 Nov 2005Mr Elliott is a serious butcher for people who are serious about food. The meat is properly hung, the cuts beautiful, and the variety vast.
Do not expect to breeze in on a Saturday afternoon and buy the leg of lamb for Sunday - customers either arrive very early, or pre-order their weekend specials.
Great meat, real meat like meat always used to be. I live in Hampstead and always buy my meat from here.

by Anonymous, 07 Nov 2004Does some of the best bacon I've had. (including a very strong smoked bacon). Great steaks as well. With Steve Hatt and a decent greengrocer next door why go to Sainsbury's?
