Michelin Star Restaurants in London

Kai reviews

Extremely disappointing. Our drinks arrived late and not together, plus we were served the wrong ones (I'd ordered a rose champagne but was served white; they forgot about the Mohitos). Finally, after all the confusion, the drinks arrived with the starters and the Mohitos arrived after the first course!

The starters didn't arrive together either. The soft shell crab was plonked in the middle of the table without an introduction or explanation. It wasn't fresh but we didn't complain. My fois gras which was supposed to have passion fruit dressing had strawberries instead!

The main course was average - taste and presentation that could be expected from our local Chinese restaurant. We ordered sea bass, which was not fresh and quite unpleasant in taste. When we gave this feedback to the waiter he was apologetic, but the manager argued that it had been delivered this morning and the chef had tried it - they felt it was fresh! I told them that we weren't making an issue in order to get a refund, but just giving feedback. We received no apology or appeasement.

Service was appalling, except for out table waiter who seemed embarrassed and apologized several times. The rest were badly trained and arrogant, especially the sommelier and manager.
All in all, we were gutted. We could have had a much better evening at The Good Earth - food, presentation and service at half the cost! Michelin stars?? Don't be fooled and don't waste your money.

I go out in London a few days a week and have been to many excellent restaurants. Kai has incredible food but I have never seen prices this high in any restaurant ever. There is a whole page of the menu with dishes that range from £68 to £108 each. With two hungry people and a bottle of wine you are looking at a minimum spend of £100+ per person.

In a different league to most restaurants in Chinatown, and indeed most of the Chinese restaurants I've eaten at anywhere in the world. Serious cooking (and prices to match) and friendly, efficient service. Definitely worth checking out for a treat.
