Mr Kong's reviews
Food okay, service lousy! We went there for Chinese New Year. We'd booked a table and were queuing in the 'booked' queue when the waiter, for no apparent reason, suddenly decides to seat the company behind us (a group of arrogant and rude businessmen). After we complained, very loudly, and some in the actual party behind us saying that it wouldn't be fair, we were finally seated 30 minutes late... We were offered our first drinks on the house, but frankly I was so offended and annoyed by this time that it didn't really matter. I'll definitely not be going back there again!
by woolfgirl, 29 Feb 2008Whenever we get to London from New York, we make it a point to eat at Mr Kong's. Our last visit was as good as all the others. The prawn toast, the crispy seaweed, all of it was excellent. And the staff help make the visit even more memorable. It's a wonderful restaurant. Good prices too.
by Muggle58, 22 Feb 2008Terrible, terrible, terrible. I don't even think this deserves any stars. Went there on Saturday at lunch time and was appalled at how bad the service was, especially as the place was not busy.
My girlfriend's soup which she ordered as a starter did not arrive at all. The sweet and sour chicken was just sweet. The rest of the main courses did not turn up till 10 minutes later. I think the waiters had forgotten our food on the counter, because my friend's sizzling chicken was not sizzling at all, and both the Chinese brocolli and beef in oyster sauce (and there wasn't much oyster sauce) were cold when they came to the table.
Worst Chinese I have ever had, and that is saying something. They even had the cheek to add service charge without asking.
Visited on Saturday just gone. They served our rice 10 minutes before the rest of our dishes arrived (which were cold and had to be sent back), plus they forgot a soup not once but twice. In the end we cancelled. It wasn't even a particularly busy night. The place smelt of paint and you couldn't use the ladies toilet as there was a workman in there. Never again.
by Jaysun, 11 Feb 2008My favourite Chinese restaurant. Never been disappointed with the food. A really excellent menu and top class service. Can't wait to visit again!
by lizanne, 16 Jan 2008Mr Kong's has been my favourite Chinese restaurant since I was introduced by a friend in the early '90s. The food is usually great, with my favourites being 'ribs in a bag' (order it, it's fantastic!) and duck in yam paste. The service is always very friendly. The restaurant has been closed since June 2007 and I'm desperately waiting for it to re-open.
by firesheep, 28 Dec 2007Friendly staff, fine food and value. I'd vote for the crispy duck too, but never been let down by a course. Our Chinatown restaurant of choice.
by Martin Goodman, 29 Sep 2007Our favourite Chinatown restaurant. They are always warm and hospitable, with delicious food. Great crispy duck.
by Urban London, 16 Mar 2007Mr Kong's is my favourite choice for vegetarian Chinese at a civilised price, and they are so very nice there.
by trixie, 01 Nov 2006This place has the best crispy duck in the UK... and open till late, so definitely beats the kebab after a late night out in Soho.
by CookieMonster, 30 Oct 2006Good food, nice atmosphere. Best food in the area, even if the decor is not the best. Customer service very good.
by Anonymous, 08 Oct 2006Good reliable food but tired decor. Gents' toilet downstairs is not for the faint-hearted.
by Boat Drinks (13 reviews), 29 Aug 2006Saturday was our second visit to Mr Kong's - we were really pleased that we were able to find it again. The crispy aromatic duck is the best we've had. The stuffed chillies are extremely hot, but tasty if you like that kind of thing! Would recommend it to anyone looking for great food and good service.
by Blaize (2 reviews), 06 Mar 2006Really friendly, even though very busy because of Christmas. Best prawn toasts ever (and we've eaten a few). Really child-friendly. Surroundings are a bit basic, but grandma, us and the kids all had a really good meal. Can't wait to go again (and nor can grandma)!
by Anonymous, 23 Jan 2006Great food and affordable, excellent customer services and no need to wait long for food. The restaurant is quite small and at rush hour you should be prepared to wait for at least 15 mins. But worth it.
by Anonymous, 03 Aug 2005Better Chinese food than most of the places in Chinatown, although the decor is 'cheap cafe' rather than 'fine dining'. Fine for big groups of mates but don't take your new, hot date there.
