The Capital reviews
Lunch here has to be the best bargain in London. Exquisite food, superb service and elegant surroundings.
Between us our party of six had a range of the choices available and all were splendid. An intensely flavoured watercress soup was poured over three pasta waterlilies, each cradling a quail's egg, and then followed rabbit with superb pasta. Steak (which I've never ordered in a restaurant before) was stunningly good and the chocolate and marscapone pudding just delicious. Coffee came with petit fours and a range of chocolates in flavours such as passion fruit or star anise. The bill for six was £350, which included three bottles of wine, sherry and water.
Overall, I'd say that the experience wasn't at all as I had expected; however, it also wasn't a total bust. Have stayed in a variety of types of hotels in England, France and Italy as well as the Caribbean and US, so I don't think that my expectations were unrealistic. Thought I was getting a great value with the US$ package - a sophisticated, five star hotel and exceptional service at a four star rate. However, I feel like I got a poorly maintained three star hotel with inconsistent service at a four star rate.
by Shestheman, 14 Apr 2007Restaurant is awesome, hotel is not. Very small hotel, bar, small-ish rooms, limited room service with like 10 selections total, expensive internet access fees and phone fees, and to top it off, room has no satallite TV (CNN, etc) or movie channels (just 12 local stations and a few foreign channels) and this garbage is displayed on a 15" TV in a '5-Star' hotel, and at 5* prices? Can think of many other more attractive options than this place. Only positive thing about The Capital is its excellent restaurant and excellent, very large, fluffy beds.
