Montgomery Place reviews
Well, where do I start with this puppy? After months of organising a get together with mates around the UK, we all decided Montgomery Place was going to be the night of nights to be remembered. Unfortunately, this wasn't to be the case...
Upon arrival we were somewhat shocked to be presented with irksome lounge music (if you could even call it that) and ugly stools in a dark, dingy, cluttered bar. However, not to be deterred we decided we'd go rounds for the night. So my mate ordered 1 whiskey and coke, 1 Barcardi and coke, a soft drink, and a serve of vegetable spring rolls (think 1 x 10cm Iceland spring roll cut into 5 segments and placed on a ridiculously large platter). Twenty-eight pounds later (!!) we all gulped and decided that was it, out we go.
A shame really - what we'd been after was a vibrant bar, with upbeat tunes and reasonably priced drinks. If you have wads of cash and don't mind a dire atmosphere, then this place is for you. Otherwise, I suggest you avoid it.
Small, cramped, and at £28 for three drinks (including a lemonade) it's definitely NOT worth it.
by cbruiners, 13 Mar 2007Montgomery Place has great drinks, friendly staff, and is not exclusive enough to attract people who just want to be seen. The place is always buzzing but it always manages to be pleasant.

by Harry22, 01 Sep 2006The best thing to happen to Portobello since the 60s. The drinks are wonderful, if a tad expensive (you definitely pay for what you get). Bar staff's knowledge of cocktails is second to none, and if you just go there to see the basin in the toilets it's something everyone should do!
