Tabernacle reviews
Rubbish. Markets itself as a style bar without having any. The weekend clientele are dreadful beings who for the most seem to be out-of-towners getting their tiny bit of cool in Shoreditch. No residents of Shoreditch/Clerkenwell would go here unless forced; far more hip places to go. Overpriced and well, over.
by adolf galland (5 reviews), 27 Mar 2007Went here with an offer of 2 courses plus half bottle of wine and it was great. Fabulous cocktail to start and really good steak for main. Really liked the decor and the waiting staff were fine.
by fussy (15 reviews), 11 Jan 2007Went to an awful night here recently - bad, tuneless techno and electro all night, with the odd indie record thrown in. Weird... made for a bad atmosphere.
by Anonymous, 26 Nov 2006Appalling service. Booked for twenty but were split up after being assured we would all be together (we were seated at opposite ends of the restaurant). The staff were rude to a number of our friends and as we were not loud, unruly or drunk this was intolerable, especially considering we paid around £500. They gave nuts to a nut allergy sufferer after she had specifically asked if it contained nuts... they could have killed her.
After refusing to pay the service charge the staff were again appallingly rude and the waitress in question snatched the bill out of our hands to redo it, stormed off and then threw the revised version at us. Our experience in the club downstairs was also bad and we regret booking the whole evening at this venue. Would not recommend this place to any large groups.
The goat's cheese and rocket salad was commendable, but the waitress was surly and endeavoured to force as many side orders on us as possible. Overall, an enjoyable experience spoilt by the money-making schemes of the staff.
by timmmmmmeee, 13 Oct 2006Seemed like a decent bar until I got the bill. There is table service but I chose to go direct to the bar. Unfortunately, I didn't check the receipt for the payment I made with my card. They'd added service charge to it already, despite ordering from the bar and carrying it back myself to the table. This is not acceptable in my book. Shame that something like this can ruin a bar's image just to earn a few pounds extra.
by Anonymous, 10 Oct 2006Sunday after parties are good here. They go on until Monday morning - electro tastic. Only for the pure party people. Never even knew it was a restaurant too!
by Anna Spanna, 13 Dec 2005I had dinner there with a group of about 20 for my birthday. I found the service poor, the food was great but definitely over priced. Atmosphere was very good and I will go back, prob just for a drink though.
by Anonymous, 14 Jul 2005Great place! I've been here twice and really enjoyed myself both times. The service is prompt and good mannered, the decor is stylish but not glitzy and the music is eclectic.
When you look around everyone seems to be dancing or laughing - there's none of the posturing and pouting you so often see in other bars in this area. If you haven't been before give it a go.
Amazing. Best restaurant I have ever visited (and i have visited many.) Will definitely be going back!
by Anonymous, 04 Jun 2005Would definitely recommend this place. Met friends there for dinner on Saturday night, both the food and service was fantastic, the staff certainly went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Had reserved an area downstairs for later, where again was suitably impressed with the music and atmosphere. A great night was had by all.
by Anonymous, 09 May 2005I read the reviews, went there, but found it overpriced and full of ugly people. Very disappointing.
by Anonymous, 15 Apr 2005We discovered the Tabernacle restaurant at the end of 2004. What a place! It is nice to know that trendy Shoreditch has more mature venues now than the ones on playground Hoxton Square.
The restaurant is very cosy and the food delicious. And the club downstairs was packed with young beautiful people drinking the carefuly prepared cocktails. I think the bar upstairs worked well but is too dimly lit and the space too big. But a fantastic tucked-away place which I am sure will become a destination venue quicker than I would like it to.
I couldn't have been waited by such a nice and funny waiter. The food was excellent yet not too expensive and I found the architecture impeccable. I would recommend this to anyone!
