Leila's Shop reviews
Rubbish service. Staff much more interested in talking to their groovy friends than ringing up my packet of salt. Nice ceramic jug on the counter – £30! So not that nice. Is it a restaurant? Do they want you to come in and sit down? Not that clear, and frankly I can't be bothered.
by octaviajones, 10 Feb 2008New to the area some time ago, I went there with my husband one morning and asked whether they do breakfast. "Well, we can..." was the response, in a distinctive 'you're really putting us out' tone. We were obviously not cool enough for this place and they made sure we knew it.
When we went, there were no menus, no indication of what it is exactly, because - of course - if you're cool enough, you'll know. All too hard. Left-wing, antiglobalisation-type snobbery at its worst... all the while sipping Monmouth of course.
Can never understand what it is people find to like about this place. OK, the latte is good (Monmouth) but £2.40?!
by neilchase, 14 Jun 2007Never tried the food just the pleasant coffee but the whole experience is like sitting in your own kitchen surrounded by delicious and delightful stuff.
by HB (2 reviews), 14 Jan 2007Useless and condescending service. I mentioned that I had found the worst place to eat near here the other day to my friend who is local. He actually guessed that it was this place.
Basically the food is OK (if you can get any - the place is like a badly run 6th form tuck shop), but NOT the best food in town of its genre. If you've eaten in Europe and are familiar with good quality homemade food/solid peasant cooking then this place is nowhere near deserving of any rave reviews.
Go there by all means, but have a back up place to go to instead before your temper flares!
The best thing to happen in Shoreditch since Arnold Circus Bandstand. A legend is born.
by Mori Lucy, 21 Jun 2006Not a huge range but what she has is excellent. Worth a visit for any foodie.
