J Sheekey reviews
Went to Theatre on 25.07.09 to see 'War Horse'.
Entered Sheekeys at 1 p.m. and enquired for table and was advised that the Oyster Bar would be more appropriate since time was restricted. Show started at 2.30 p.m. Seated at table in comfortable area. We had Crab, lobster prawn cocktail followed by the fish pie and two glasses of white wine. Excellent and delicious, service was fast, polite and good humoured. Bill was £59 including service charge which we were happy to pay. Got up to leave and banged head on low fitted light. Waiter rushed over very solicitous and enquired whether I was OK. I stated that I needed medicine and he bought large glass of Calvados. Well done Sheekeys.
I drowsed during the first 20 minutes of show. In summary an excellent pre theatre meal, great service and advice and although on expensive side worth the dosh!

Amazing food and service, expensive, but well worth it for the excellent service and quality of food.

Hard to get a table, but the best fish, chips and mushy peas in the West End. Not cheap but well worth the occasional treat.

Getting pricey, and quality beginning to suffer just a little. I hope it was only a 'blip', as it's my favourite fish restaurant in London.

The food was good, though very pricey. They charge a cover charge per person and automatically include a 17.5% tip, so make sure you cater for these extra charges added to your bill.

I love J Sheekey! I was taken out for a business Christmas lunch and was spoilt with the lobster thermidor. It was possibly the best meal I've ever eaten. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was excellent, but eat the mussels with caution!

Perhaps it's old age, but is this really value for money?
Two courses for two, glass of wine each, one adequate Virgin Mary, tap water and two filter coffees. At the bar with a good view of all the washing up. But, er, £100?
I like the place, but they should get real on the prices. That said, it's cheap relative to my neighbourhood restaurant,
Nobu Berkeley.
Yes, I am clearly out of touch.

I had a beautiful meal (grilled lobster) but my boyfriend was served something other than what he ordered because they misheard him, so make sure your English is understood! The service took a while. We were supposed to be out in about an hour because they needed the table, but we were much longer than that - I don't know what happened to the people needing our table!

Absolutely superb fish (somewhat let down by the accompanying vegetables and chips) served by a warm, cheerful staff.

I really like it here. I've eaten some of the best fish dishes I've ever had in this no frills, quaint restaurant. Bundles of history and rammed with energy. Sister restaurant to
the Ivy but much better in my view.

I've been to
The Ivy several times and was hoping for a similar experience. However - we were kept waiting 40 mins for the table we had booked several week before. The waiting staff were a bit grumpy, the food was very average and they messed up the bill, overcharging us by £100. Would rather eat at McDonalds!

I've been to Sheekeys a number of times and always had an absolutely fabulous time. The staff are fantastic and always friendly. I've been twice on my wedding anniversary and was made to feel so special that I would go every year (my husband doesn't feel the same unfortunately). It is quite hard to get a table but worth it if you do.

It used to be a great place, it has DEFINITELY lost it! Staff are nowhere near the standard they used to be and getting a table has become a nonsense. Have twice called (well in advance) to be told there is availablity and then the story changes and they do not. It's pretty pathetic - doesn't make me more keen to spend my money there, just ensures that I pass this message to all that I know and spend time dining with. There you go!

We were overcharged and underfed. Not even the courtesy of a reply to an email of complaint. The food is passable but the policy in J Sheekeys is pack 'em tight and move 'em fast. One of the worst examples of London's greedy restaurateurs.

Went there for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic - so posh and English! The food is superb. I shared the Prawns in Chilli Sauce to start and they were to die for, for main I had the Salmon Fishcakes and they were amazing - the best I've tasted. My partner had the Lobster Thermidor and that was great too.
