Blackheath Farmers' Market reviews
James, I disagree... It's not a massive market, and it's not cheap, but in a place where there are no other grocery stores to speak of, it is really great to be able to go and buy fresh fruit and veg there. Have a look at my post on The Blackheath Bugle for more about the farmer's market.

Following remarks from friends on the lack of produce at this market, I decided to go and judge this for myself as it was local to me.
I was pleasantly surprised. OK, it wasn't Borough Market; however, I managed to buy a whole week's shopping without the argy-bargy of tourists.
There are about 20 stalls, of which here's what I can remember:
4 dairy (2 being cheese, other 2 milk and yoghurt)
2 chicken/egg
3 fruit/veg
1 juice
1 fish
1 sausage
2 bread
1 pie
1 jam/honey
As a price guide: 50p for a pint of milk, £5.45 for decent-sized chicken. Bread is the only thing that's dear.
Hope this is useful!

My fiance and I have been frequenting Blackheath Farmers' Market for the past 3 months. We are extremely pleased with the selection of seasonal produce, the quality of which easily surpasses the half-rotted fruit and veg found at the hundreds of street markets around London. We can't afford to buy free-range, organic meats every week, but we don't feel like the prices are exaggerated.
In my opinion Blackheath Farmers' Market is exactly what a market should be all about - warm, friendly people, and quality organic products.

Am I missing something here? This is all that is bad about so called "farmers markets". A poor range of suppliers selling a pretty average range of produce at inflated prices. Clearly aimed at the wealthy locals and the flocks of tourists who frequent Blackheath on a Sunday.
A short drive to Borough Market makes one realise what a market should be all about.

Have we missed a great food market in London? Let us know.
