Sketch Lecture Room & Library reviews
Prohibitively expensive for most, and unduly so. No restaurant can possibly justify charging these prices unless the food gives someone an orgasm, and last time I checked my pants were still dry. It is excellent by any standards and the service is very good as well, but come on... This place needs someone to bring it back down to earth.
by Anonymous, 12 Mar 2007I am a big fan of the whole Sketch aesthetic anyway, but this was incredible. The service was impeccable, with nary a snooty glance at those less well-dressed companions of mine. The decor is grand but not intimidating at all, and the food, most importantly, was fabulous. A roller-coaster ride of some 9 courses, leaving you nicely full but not bloated. Perfect.
by eljay2001 "top london reviewer" (19 reviews), 31 Jul 2006Sketch Lecture Room & Gallery is awesome! One of London's most beautiful restaurants and certainly in the ranks of London's finest culinary experiences.
They truly redefine "paying attention to detail." However, not all of their excellent staff can speak flawless English-this can occasionally pose a slight problem...after all, nowhere is perfect, but Sketch LRL is about as close as it gets in my opinion.
I found that the combination of flavours was a stretch for most palates. They seemed to try too hard for originality and not for gastronomic pleasure. My taste buds said "take me back to Gordon Ramsay's!"
by ezpz, 17 Nov 2005Outstandingly beautiful venue. Velvet armchairs and stunning domed ceiling make you feel like you're sitting in a very trendy Venetian palace.
Service is as you would expect, impeccable and miles better than the self absorbed staff in the downstairs restaurant. I suppose the astronomical prices mean that Sketch can afford to source every thing that they use - from delicate plates to beautiful mini silver teapots - from the best craftsmen all over the world. It's like dining using all the treasures that we would normally keep wrapped up 'for best' .
We had the tasting menu which at 7 or so courses is too much richness and quantity. All in all the food is pretty good but possibly trying a bit too hard. Just go for the sheer luxury and opulence of the place.
I loved it here - superb design as per the rest of Sketch and excellent food. Ignore the hype and try it with an open mind - I'd rank it as one of the top 10 meals I've had in London.
by mr_benn (22 reviews), 03 Dec 2004The bills aren't really that scary, compared to other high end London restaurants. Sketch serves serious food in wonderful surroundings with a lot of attention to detail.
I recommend booking for lunch and taking advantage of the set menus. It still won't be cheap, as to do the event justice you'll spend plenty on wine, but it will be a meal to remember.
Check out the toilets whilst you are there too - definitely my favourite in London :)
