The Admiralty reviews
Had a Valentine's meal at the Admiralty restaurant and what a pleasure to see the changes - beautiful minimalist decor and set up, great bar and wine list, fabulous service and food. It's so pleasing to find a French restaurant serving quality regional French dishes at a very reasonable price.
Our meal for 2 cost £60 with wine. The wife, being vegetarian, was very pleased to find a beetroot tart made to perfection and gnocchi, French style, for main ('divine' was her word). As for me, to follow a fab foie gras I went for a skate wing au beurre noir and I thought I was in Paris again! The service was excellent - although the restaurant was full we didn't have to worry about speed of service, it was perfectly timed.
All in all, GO THERE OR MISS OUT!
What a disappointment! Dining there shortly before Christmas there was no linen on the tables (just wood veneer); the portions were small; food poor (savoury tarte tatin was a tiny circle of puff pastry with a few vegetables arranged on top); main course at best of amateur standard (acidic sun-dried tomatoes mixed into a cream sauce!); only the person I was with said yes to water but a huge bottle was brought to the table already open (and charged for of course). To add insult to injury, the bill came to much more than expected and we realised afterwards (on checking the menu on the website) that we had been considerably overcharged. Terrible!
by Maggie_R, 06 Jan 2007Definitely recommend the Admiralty for 'lunch with the parents'. It is set in the impressive surroundings of Somerset House, and is the tall, light filled rooms of the restaurant are decorated in classic style with nice modern touches like the duck egg blue leather seats. The food is accomplished although service is pretty slow. Quiet and genteel - my parents definitely enjoyed it.
