Blake's Hotel
AA Gill's review of Blake's (The Times)
Blakes reviews
We asked for the wine glasses to be removed three times before they were. The salmon starter was definitely not fresh and had to be returned. There was no apology. The wait after the starters for main courses was about 30-40 mins. The potato souffle with caviar which came in a tiiiny little glass was served to us with spoons too big to fit and when we asked for smaller spoons the staff seemed annoyed. The staff actually made the whole experience really uneasy and uncomfortable, talking about us the whole time when we could hear everything!
We were a party of six girls. When the bill came we checked it thoroughly, only to find out they had ADDED 3 extra bottles of Evian, 2 cokes, 1 Martini, 2 glasses of wine... all of which we never had. We kindly told the waiter, who disappeared for about 20 minutes only to return and hand the bill back to us without a word of apology. When we asked if it was all sorted out, all he replied was: "You tell me". I have never EVER been to a restaurant of that supposed calibre where the waiters and waitresses are SO rude. After the bill was paid we immediately left.
This is somewhere I will never return. Absolutely awful experience. I was in shock at the rudeness.
