Silk reviews
Superb! I am staying at the hotel and ordered direct for room service. I just let them know that I'm vegetarian and they took it from there. Fantastic seasonings, texture, presentation. Not one bite was left!
by bubbles29, 26 Sep 2007Had a slow start in 2005/2006 but 2007 has seen a real improvement in the food, service and standards. The food is tasty, with good portions, and the dramatic style of the room makes for a great special night out.
by Bootylicious (5 reviews), 22 Mar 2007Visited the restaurant after its reopening with new kitchen team. The food now focuses on Thai and Indian Cuisine and is one of the best I have had to date. Great variety and the new team have really out-done themselves. Very different from my first experience.
by Shirig Regnas (3 reviews), 18 Oct 2005Made a reservation for my anniversary. Showed up on the night and the restaurant was closed for a revamp and hadn't reopened. Surely the first thing a restaurant has to do is actually serve you!
by alisonjapan, 28 Sep 2005Slightly bizarre combination of old, Cockney court room, linen clad tables, Buddha statues and candles...not sure it's a combination that actually works!
The food is a tad complicated too - lots of different cuisines from the silk route. But the food is good, well presented and the service is excellent. Worth going once just for the 'how odd is this?' conversation with your fellow diners!
We loved Elisha Carter's cooking at Lola's and looked forward to sampling it again at Silk. We weren't disappointed, although he takes a different approach to the menu and some dishes worked better than others.
The room must be one of the most unique dining rooms in London and when we were there they somewhat self-consciously played a Rolling Stones album while we ate (Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had previously been here under less pleasant circumstances).
Definitely worth checking out.
Interesting concept and very unusual to dine in a courtroom! The service was excellent and most of the dishes were great. In a few cases I felt they tried a little too hard and over-complicated things - some of the food would definitely be described as 'experimental' and a found some of the combinations of flavours slightly over the top. Nevertheless, I'd visit again and the hotel bar's worth checking out after dining.
