Salisbury Tavern reviews

My partner and I were really interested in trying out the new-look Salisbury since its refurb in November. We're impressed!

It's a smart, slick venture these days, and the staff were very friendly and considerate. Great range of lagers and ales; loved the wine list too. Food was TOTALLY fab. We had juicy, proper salmon and crayfish fishcakes, and superb lemon sole with a mini smoked haddock and potato pie (intriguing combo that really worked). Our friend who joined us loved his slow-cooked rabbit leg too. The rhubarb crumble was light and fresh and the caramel roast pear with ginger biscuit and green tea icecream... well, it was out of this world!

Thoroughly worth checking out - a great restaurant.

I just wanted to make a quick mention of the newly refurbished Salisbury Tavern on the corner of Dawes and Sherbrooke roads. I decided to go down there on Saturday night for dinner and was amazed by what they've done with the place. They have transformed it from an old man's boozer into a light, modern, relaxing place to go for a few drinks and a quiet meal.

I started off in the bar area, where I met a few mates for a pint, then we moved into the restaurant where we were met with a warm, intimate environment. We were seated at a long table with chairs on one side and a long, funky, purple sofa on the other which ran the entire length of the restaurant. I was very impressed with the menu. Everything from foie gras starters to slow-cooked leg of rabbit for mains. It tasted great too. I had a starter of Welsh rarebit (very nice) followed by a main dish of mini rack of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes. It was delicious! The lamb just melted in your mouth. I even lashed out with dessert and had the Yorkshire rhubarb crumble and custard. Heaven!

The new owners have done great things with this place and I hope it continues for a long time. I mean, to get food of that quality with prices of £2-£6 for starters, £8-£15 for mains and £5.50 for desserts, I'm sold.

Salisbury Tavern now has new owners 2009 and is great. Small but excellent bar menu (can't vouch for restaurant as haven't been), pricing reasonable. Staff are well trained, efficient, friendly and enthusiastic. New table football installed in separate area away from bar, which is a good occupier for kids. Worth giving the pub another try if you had given up on it after a slide in service and quality in 2008.

It's in Fulham - of course it's full of unpleasant people and overpriced!

Food good (if expensive);
wine list good (if expensive);
staff good (for Fulham).

Don't avoid, but not one for a birthday or special occasion.

Exceptionally comfortable bar and beautiful restaurant under a glass roof. Food is divine and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great food, superb Bloody Mary's (by far the best in London!), and really well informed, friendly and super - efficient staff. Reasonably priced too - what more can you ask for?

The food is the same as many other places and seriously overpriced - it's also often cold, late and overcooked - even the hamburgers! Whole place has a slight whiff of ammonia from the bathrooms. Class. Shouldn't be on this site.

Good atmosphere, love the staff (mostly), but please don't come here - it's too popular already! Food brilliant. An all round great local.

The WORST meal out I've ever had! It was utterly shambolic.

To start with, the air conditioning was freezing - we were under a vent and ended up in coats and gloves! It then took nearly two hours to have our order taken, and even then the waiter had to return no less than 5 times to make changes as they had run out of nearly everything we wanted. It took another hour for any of our starters to arrive, and they kept coming in dribs and drabs for the next 40 mins. Ditto for the main courses, which were mostly tiny and luke-warm. AND they kept forgetting to bring our drinks order...

Frankly, it was so unbelievably bad that in the end, after over 4 hours, we were crying with laughter. But the manager's offer by way of apology was token at best. I wouldn't go back if they paid me.

Avoid: full of questionable drunks during the day and squadrons of the most loathsome attack-Sloanes at night. Bar staff entirely comprised of this week's Australians/South Africans.

Agreed - it's poor, substandard food & overpriced wine list.

This place should not be on this website. If you want to go somewhere for overpriced sub-standard food to be surrounded by a pack of braying rugby-shirted morons - this is your place. (Avoid the Cottage Pie at all costs).

This Fulham pub has a smart restaurant attached to it, and serves food that is quite a few rungs better than pub grub. Nice to have as a popular local option if you can't be bothered to cook and have friends coming over.
