The Draper's Arms reviews
I will never go back, and recommend that you do not go there until they sort themselves out. This is a fancy gastropub but they are so up themselves it ruins the possibilities of the nice interior and position. The beer is average, the food just OK for the price, the bar staff variable, and the waitresses in the restaurant upstairs incredibly surly and rude. Last night they argued with me because I refused to pay the full 12.5% service charge that had automatically been added to my bill. Bearing in mind half the bill was bottles of wine that we had to serve ourselves, I thought my 20% tip on the food was enough. But these moody mares thought not and told me I had not paid enough. Awful.
by beer, 23 Feb 2008I had scallops, which were amazing. The wine list is superb - barman suggested the Australian Reisling, which was great value. Cheese cake was great. All in all, it's a bit of a find this place.
by jamie b, 11 Jun 2007We ate in the restaurant on a not particularly busy night. I ordered a chicken dish, which arrived raw on the inside. I then chose to replace this with the steak, only to find that it had also not been cooked properly.
The excuse for all this was that the head chef was 'busy'. Pathetic! And not cheap either...Shame, as it's my local, but I won't be going back. You can only live on reputation for so long, especially in Islington.
This is a great pub on a pretty residential street of Barnsbury. The food is always amazing and the staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the pub is nice enough but could have been much better without the somewhat naff photographs on the walls.
