The Oak reviews
Absolutely appalling. Avoid at all costs!

We wanted to try this place as we thought the food was supposed to be good, but will NEVER go back. My friend booked a large party of 17 for the private dining room, which she had called to confirm on the Wednesday. We all arrived on the Friday and were told we had no reservation. My friend's name was in the book but had been crossed out. The staff were exceedingly rude and disinterested and we spent nearly an hour trying to discuss the situation and find an amicable solution, until we got got so frustrated we left. No one apologised, and staff were so offhand, accusing us of calling the wrong pub. We were even made to feel that we were being rude, when we had 17 hungry guests which we had to feed and we were trying to see whether we could squeeze in downstairs. Appalling service. Don't waste your money. Never been treated so badly.

Tried to book their upstairs room for a private event. Was first told that they couldn't accommodate the numbers. I then pointed out that the larger room could fit my numbers. They said there was a minimum spend and that my numbers weren't sufficient. Um, how do you know how much I am willing to spend? Finally they said they could only let me have the room for 4 hours during the day, at which point I said no thanks - there are other, better venues.
Absolutely uncaring service. I will never bring them my business and I have told all my friends not to go there either. Why advertise private dining when it's obvious you don't want to offer it?

I would seriously recommend not going to this restaurant, especially during the day.
The service is absolutely jaw droppingly shocking: waiting half an hour for menus, forgotten dishes and surly, apathetic unapologetic wait staff standing around idly gossiping whilst losing custom.
The food is awful, leaving aside the issue of the mottled clump of hair in my friend's pasta. I had a virtually inedible slimy linguine with rancid shellfish.
Try one of Notting Hill's many other gastro pubs
, otherwise be disappointed. Terrible on all fronts.

Excellent Italian food, great ambiance and service. Great place to catch up with friends, as they don't rush you. There is also a very swanky bar upstairs for after dinner.

Nice pub, pretty average fare. The staff are friendly though and there is a nice vibe. The garden is fun in the warmer months and they have been known to run a BBQ at weekends from there as well. Upstairs restaurant was a bit dead and empty. Their Sunday 'Roast
and a DJ' attracts a big crowd who pour onto the pavement outside.

The best chocolate brownies I've ever tasted! Gorgeous warm atmosphere achieved through great lighting (mostly candles) and wooden furniture
. Have been 3 times now and never once been disappointed with the amazing food.

Really good (if a little overpriced) pizzas, and nice atmosphere, but only if the waiters happen to not be having an argument. Don't go if you're planning on just having drinks or not all of you are eating, as the staff get a little snooty and make you feel unwelcome.
