The Phoenix reviews
These reviews are ridiculous. This pub is exactly what you would expect - very attractive people, good drinks and a lot of fun. If you have a problem with these things, then go some place else. But if you like attractive people and good conversation, then you should try here - you won't be let down.
by ukwestend, 05 Jan 2008The food is fantastic, even if it is a little expensive! Extremely good service. Great for a social pint or a booze up!
by Prendy, 24 Oct 2007Food good value?! In spite of the menu's over-elaborate description for bangers and mash, I wouldn't call a small amount of mashed potato and a sausage at over £10 a go good value exactly! Avoid eating here.
If it's just a drink you want, there are bigger and better places in London that don't close all the windows by 7:00pm and kick everyone inside an overpopulated pub at 10:00pm. I can think of better places to drown in someone else's pint as someone files past you to the toilets.
It has recently had a refurbishment and the food is very good value - particularly the 10 minute Express lunch which arrives on a slate!
by Anonymous, 04 Aug 2006We have just moved into the area and have been to this restaurant about 5 times. Every time we have dined there the food has been exceptional and the service very good too.
It can be a little smoky at times, but that's the same with any pub restaurant. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual evening out.
Service was slow and when the food did eventually arrive it was cold - very disappointing when you go to have a meal with friends and end up eating on your own! On a positive note - banter with the bar staff was very amusing!
by Anonymous, 31 Mar 2005Food took quite a while, and no wonder, it takes a long time to prepare a forkful of microwaved spaghetti and two mouthfuls of tasteless fish, and even longer when you have to put it in the fridge to make sure it's cooled down to a lovely tepid level!
Nice place, didn't get any of the bad staff obviously, but clearly the chef is an expert in areas other than cooking.
Marvellous! The reviews below have got it exactly right. The Phoenix does'nt rely on people who read this to fill itself up. A great and welcoming institution.
by Anonymous, 05 Mar 2005Absolutely atrocious atmosphere, full of self obsessed Sloanies and Prince Harry wannabee girlfriends. The staff is recruited from the same background of rich, spoilt kids and are the rudest I have ever met. Unfortunately the food is not much better either... avoid at all costs!
by Anonymous, 16 Jan 2005Very rude bar staff and poorly cooked food - not a place we will be revisiting. Nice design feature in that the toilets open directly into the dining room.
by Anonymous, 04 Jan 2005If you want to hear a load of loud, posh, over privileged annoying city types talking about money and not much else, this is definitely the place for you. Henriettas and Ruperts Galore.... Nice ale on tap if you can withstand it.
by Anonymous, 04 Dec 2004The food is simple, well cooked and fresh with a menu that changes regularly. We only go for lunch as the pub gets so smoky at night. even at the non-smoking tables. May the banning of smoking in public places in London come soon!
