The Princess reviews

A very good restaurant upstairs with recommended food and wine. I often bring friends here when visiting from Paris, as I know they will be impressed. The food is fairly rustic and feels like a mix of French/English. You can taste the quality of the products and the passion in the kitchen. A good wine list to complement the food, with a good selection by glass and carafe.

Not sure about the review below stating drinkers aren't allowed in here. This place is packed in the evenings with a mix of diners and drinkers although, granted, lunches are very much a food affair. I also disagree that it's gone to pot since the re-furb. I used to come here (and enjoy coming here) before it was done up and yes it's got more tables now and it looks quite plush but I suppose that just reflects the changes in the area. The food has definitely been notched up a level or two in the dining room but they still do good food downstairs and it's not that expensive. The staff are very good, the wine list extensive and they also have a good selection of beer as they've always had. It's definitely one of the best places to eat or go out in the area!

It's about time a decent gastropub opened in Shoreditch. The Princess of Shoreditch is not trendy or cool, just a really nice place to spend an evening. I don't really do formality, so tried the downstairs pub. I went with two friends and we all commented on how nice a time we had. The staff were great, the food amazing (would recommend the fish and chips), and their wine list is extensive though not the cheapest (I particularly liked the mulled wine served in a cute little tankard).

We went on a Tuesday and it was VERY busy. Had to put our name down for a table and waited twenty minutes, but the manageress was lovely and we had drinks at the bar. Word of warning for drinkers: while we were having our drinks there was an almost constant stream of people coming in just for drinks and being turned away because the tables are only for diners and the bar area was full of people waiting to dine.

All in all, a great place for a meal but obviously not for a night on the lash!

This place has unfortunately gone to pot. Used to be a decent pub but since the refurbishment has turned into a wine bar full of tables, that questions people who turn up and turns them away. Unless you like booking a pub in advance, don't bother.

Definitely the best roast dinner I have had in East London so far. Food was great, service was quick and very friendly, atmosphere was relaxed, there was a great choice of wine and the puddings were to die for! Will be recommending to all my friends and will be back myself in the very near future.

We don't often stray to the East End but last night we discovered the dining room at The Princess and it was fantastic. There was a nice intimate atmosphere upstairs and the service was friendly without being overbearing. Our food came quickly (trio of lamb was beautiful and is definitely worth the trip!). We will be going back. All in all, a great evening.

Have been to The Princess twice recently and both times had an amazing time. The upstairs restaurant is really cosy in the evening but also feels great during the day. Had a works Xmas do and both the service and food were really good, so thought I'd go for Sunday lunch as well. Although I had to wait an hour for a table it was totally worth the wait. It was seriously the best roast I've had in ages. The beef was cooked to perfection, as were all the roast veggies. Great atmosphere and service again. Will definitely be back soon and would definitely recommend.

Was a bit disappointed as booked for a birthday meal for eight on a Saturday night and it was pretty much empty. No atmosphere at all downstairs and only one or two other tables occupied upstairs. Food was good, although one meal forgotten and didn't arrive until everyone else had pretty much finished eating. We were still charged though. It's a shame as I went before and had a good time, but it felt like it was going under to me.

Must agree with the comments below! I had a great birthday there with a few friends last week. The new owners have completely turned this place around. The food was simply divine and the service spot on. I can recommend the lamb tenderloin with figs - stunning!

Absolutely AWESOME!! What a fantastic place. The new guys that have taken over are so nice and friendly. They've really done a great job. We had our work Christmas party there on Friday night, and it was truly out of this world. I can seriously recommend the steak - phwoar! Anyone looking for a night out with amazing food, wine, great service, cool music and a really warm atmosphere should look no further. See you in there soon - I will be back!

I've dined at The Princess twice and the food was wonderful and tasty and beautifully presented. Service was reassuringly good (which helped when coming to terms with the bill). A little more pricey than anticipated, but the experience and decor where definitely worth it. A good place to go on a date!

Delicious food - chicken with feta sauce was delicately flavoured and not too rich. Waitress was friendly and the wine kept flowing. Keep trying to find a reason to return.

I have eaten here three times (in the upstairs restaurant) and have had an excellent meal each time. Polite and attentive service. I will certainly go back.
