William IV reviews
Went to this gastropub on a Saturday night with friends for a relaxed dinner. With its slightly wonky period charm and candlelight setting, the William IV was exactly what it needed to be - good quality food in a relaxed setting. The service was informal and welcoming. A little gem!

This is a really lovely looking pub that also serves food. Unfortunately it was a let down due to the terrible bar staff and the awful food. When I asked for two glasses of wine, the bar person said "Which one?" I asked what they had, to which she tutted and rolled her eyes before rolling off a list of wines without a care about whether I could hear or not. I ordered the shepherdess pie and my companion the burger. The burger had clearly been precooked and had not been warmed through; the shepherdess pie was like something you would get served as an in-flight meal.

The William IV changed hands in August 2010. It's a fantastic place - cosy and welcoming, with friendly staff. My husband and I and our two children had a fantastic Sunday lunch - crispy roast potatoes and succulent beef. A place to linger...

This pub has recently changed hands. Apart from a few hiccups to begin with (an hour wait for some food and the cold bar), the place seems to be getting better and they have found their feet. The bar staff are really friendly and down-to-earth, making you feel really welcome. The atmosphere is fantastic, with great music. The food has got better (I recommend the lamb shank).
Go and have a drink, try some grub and see for yourselves!

Very bad experience there. No loud music was allowed to play after 11:30pm. Never going to host anything there. NOT recommended.

I went down to the William the other night and had a great time - relaxed, informal and very chilled. The food was great and the manager polite and efficient... perhaps he's learnt a lot since the last review over 18 months ago (see below). He was a true professional at his job.

The food was fantastic, the staff were amazing, but the manager was just a bit too ditzy. He made a continuous mess-up of our order and was totally oblivious, like it was the norm for him. Thank God his staff can clean up after him!
