When I was told my money was not welcome (Scottish £20 notes sterling), I asked for a reason. I did not get one, despite a number of times asking why they wouldn't accept them - it is legal tender in the UK after all. Two security men grabbed me by the arms, threw me to the floor and the police were called. I received no apology. Be very careful in this store!

I am from Africa, Nigeria to be precise. I own a sports shop and a friend directed me to Lillywhites, where I got the best bargains on a lot of stuff for my shops back home. Needless to say, I am looking forward to visiting Lillywhites again when I return to London at the end of January. Lillywhites is it.

Operator didn't know her arse from her elbow. Put me through eventually to the Picadilly store. Waited 5 minutes on hold before being cut off...

Really dreadful customer service and an automated service that keeps cutting you off. What a disgrace for a top store.

Lillywhites used to be a fantastic sporting goods store if you actually played sports. Now it is just a store that sells massive quantities of cheap 'sports gear'. I used to live in the States and every time I came to London I would pick up new rugby and football gear. I have since moved to the UK and now have to go back to the States to get quality sports wear and gear! A very big disappointment since it has been take over.

My wife and I had been on honeymoon in the UK and we paid Lillywhites a visit. Wow, wow, wow ... Such cheap prices and all the brands that we, as South Africans, want to wear. A great store to shop at.

I'm a visitor from Malaysia. Found what I was looking for at Lillywhites. Bought 3 Canterbury rugby jerseys at an unbelievable price. Can't wait to come back!

It's now a fantastic place... if you are a chav! Cheap and unattractive clothes! I used to go there often to get cricket stuff because Lillywhites WAS a cricket store (the hint is in the name). The other week I tried to find a decent pair of trainers for sport and even though they were cheap I had to look on every single floor, seeing as every floor just has the same stuff (trackie bottoms and trainers). I wish it could be restored to its former glory of a real SPORTS SHOP!!

The bargains on replica football kits are terrific but the staff are so unnecessarily rude. There is no reason they can't be trained to treat customers decently like other stores do. I'll go back anyway.

I've done my 'sports shopping' at Lillywhites for 7 years, several times a term, and it has never let me down.

Not only affordable but good quality items. I've bought my trainers, shirts and sports bags there, use them everyday, put them in the washing machine every week (and this has been going on for years)... trainers, shirts, bags, all still in good condition, still plenty of use left.

Regarding costumer service... well, the place is always packed with customers. The staff turnover must be high since every time I go back there are new faces at the tills and in every department. They are mostly young part-time students doing a seasonal job.

Do not go expecting to be given much attention. If you know what you want, you won't have much trouble finding it. Do your research beforehand.

I will continue shopping at Lillywhites. It's a great place with plenty to choose from.

I just think that before complaining people should try working a shift in Lillywhites. The rudest people in the building are the customers, not the staff. I can't understand what these people expect from a place where you can find branded products at less than half price.

Really poor customer service at Lillywhites. The staff there seem not to have a clue what they are doing. I was there looking for swimming goggles recently and was told to go to three different floors by different members of staff, yet still couldn't find any. I spoke to one of the floor managers there, who showed no concern at all and told me if I couldn't find any on any of the floors then they were out of stock and I should come back another day! Imagine if I was a 60-year-old running up and down the six floors. Good customer service? I don't think so!!

Sad but true, the old Lillywhites has gone and it is now a glorified car boot sale. I recently popped in and bought some ski clothing, but it was a pretty unpleasant experience and, when I got home, I realised that we had been hoodwinked. I doubt I'll ever call in again.

If you're thinking of ringing them to ask about a product it may take about 10 minutes to go through the queuing system, they will then put you through to the department you ask for and when you ask if it is likely you'll be hanging on for ages again, they will reassure you and the phone will ring about 15 times while tumbleweed rolls down the telephone line and then you will be cut off. Big help customer services, thanks.

Those who say the current Lillywhites is a great shop have obviously never been to a decent, proper sports shop and might as well go to a car boot sale. When I worked for them we were trained. We were sent to the main manufacturers - eg. Dunlop (ironically now also owned by Ashley), Stuart Surridge, etc - so that we knew something about tennis rackets and cricket bats, or whatever. Lillywhites (as it was!) was never cheap but at least you could get good advice based on sound knowledge and virtually any sports item you wanted.

There is a place for end-of-line sales but surely Lillywhites is not that place. How super if someone with the right attitude could take over and make it a REAL sports shop again.

Selling cheaper products can NEVER justify poor customer service! Customer service is customer service regardless of what you sell and how big the shop. Management seems to be unable to organise the layout of the store and the merchandise and unable to train their staff in customer service skills as well as in what they are selling: sports wear and equipment.

I come from Johannesburg South Africa. Yes, Lillywhites is busy, but for us, with our exchange rates, who cares? It's wonderful. This is the second time I have come here, and believe me it won't be the last. The first time I came I bought a case dirt cheap and it has lasted and lasted. Incredible value.

This place is a frustration! I went there to look at shoes for dancing and an 'employee', who had his hand down the front of his pants when I started talking to him, gave "I don't know" for every question I asked. I just walked away before I asked him if he knew ANYTHING - in all likelihood, only to get the same response!

Disgusting waste of space... Not that Mike Ashley would waste any space inside - every square inch of space is covered in stock (clearly having a store room is too expensive). This place is fine if you want a pair of jogging bottoms to wear while you sit on a street corner or park bench but if you actually want something for playing SPORT you have no chance. The stuff will no doubt cause you an injury and will fall apart within weeks (admittedly, you can replace the item as many times as you want and not spent more than £5).

Don't even bother with Field and Trek either - Mike Ashley has destroyed that brand too... not to mention what he's done to Karrimor!

I suggest you avoid any shop that has a large bright green badge saying "70% off", as it's most likely part of the Sports Direct empire and not worth spending money at (think to yourself: if they can really afford to knock 70% off the value of something, what can it really be worth?!). You really do get what you pay for.
