Cobella Akqa reviews
I went to Cobella in Selfridges and I was very disappointed. First of all they made a mistake in the booking, so I had to wait for nearly an hour. The haircut was not what I wanted and the fringe was so short I looked terrible. I am not going back.
by pinklady, 19 Mar 2008I have been to many very good salons and really look after my hair. I went into this salon with lovely, healthy blonde hair with pale highlights. As it was winter I wanted to go darker for a change (which I had done last year and absolutely loved it). I was DEVASTATED! The colour was so patchy and the cut was absolutely terrible. I never mind paying for my hair if it is well done, but this was a disaster and the hair wash/massage/blow dry was the worst I have ever had. DO NOT GO.
by gemmermiread, 12 Feb 2008The worst salon experience of my entire life. Paid for half head of highlights, got a quarter, and my hair is a vile yellow colour with a dreadful dull frosted look. After my previously chestnut brown hair was destroyed, the trainee pulled the foils out without unwrapping them, so I could hear my hair breaking and feel it being pulled out (ouch!) with every foil. I was then subjected to a revolting clammy attempt at a head massage while he mouthed words at another stylist over me. The blowdry guy then yanked my head around, burning my scalp, pulling my hair till it hurt, and left me with the weirdest alien-shaped hair! When I told the colourist that I wasn't happy, she said I could grow it out!
Would love to go back and ask them to fix the colour, but can't bring myself to set foot in the place again, so I'll just have to kiss goodbye to the money and go somewhere better.
Overrated. Rude people - 'too cool for skool' staff members who are more interested in organising their social lives...
As a special treat to myself I went to Cobella at Selfridges a couple of months before my wedding. I don't live in London, so made a 3 hour round trip. It wasn't worth the pain. I'd already met my stylist at my consultation a week before and he was very pleasant. However, due to a train cancellation, I was 12 minutes late on the appointment day. Despite me having rung the instant I knew (2.5 hours before my appointment time), and calling a further 3 times with progress reports, you'd have thought I had strolled in without so much as a word! The stylist completely ignored me and put my foils in at the speed of lightening, yanking my very long hair all the while. It was hugely unpleasant and I was made to feel really uncomfortable. I wasn't offered a drink or any magazines and just had to sit there. The hair was nothing to write home about and the experience was utterly soul destroying.
Been to Cobella in Kensington a few times and never 100% happy, but yesterday I went to their Selfridges branch and wow, what a difference! I saw Jason for my highlights and I'm delighted. There was a problem with the creative stylist I wanted to see, so I had to settle for a stylist (Tim) for the cut, but to be honest it's the best cut I've ever had. I'm very happy and it's been worth every penny. Highly recommended.
by cindy, 18 Jul 2007I have been to so many hairdressers in London - cheap ones, popular ones, expensive ones - and I have to say Cobella have been the best I have been to. I had my hair done there a year and a half ago, only because I was at Selfridges with a friend who was seeing the beautician. While I was waiting I saw so many people that half hour leave with their hair looking amazing.
I actually went to the salon near High St Kensington. Afterwards, I had so many comments from random strangers and I loved it, but money was an issue. Since then I have been going to different hairdressers because all I wanted was a trim but have never been happy with the finish. For my birthday my boyfriend surprised me with a colour and cut from Cobella.
I have very dark brown hair and have been told that my hair cannot take the dye... blah blah blah. BUT Cobella gave me half a head of highlights - not a cheap blonde, but like a honey, caramel brown with the rest a glossy brown. The cut was amazing, with a fresh new re-style that makes my round face slimmer. I couldn't be happier. The colourist was Maria (lovely, bubbly, talkative girl) and hairdresser was Runar (a pro at his job and taught me how to do my hair at home to make it look fab). They never made me spend money on products. It cost me £147 and I think that great, considering a high street shop in Willesden Green were going to charge me £110.
I felt absolutely ripped off. Certainly did not get what I wanted. The stylist just kept waffling on about himself and wasn't even paying any attention to what he was doing to my hair. The shampoo and head massage was the only good thing about that salon. Would not recommend. Anyone who thinks that because it's pricey in there the result will be worth it, NO WAY!
by annoonnyymmoouuss, 06 May 2007I have just visted Cobella Akqa and really enjoyed my experience. The stylists who did my hair were fab, and the spa and reception staff were all very friendly. I've never been treated like such a VIP. Top marks.
by fresh69, 03 May 2007I really enjoyed the experience. My hair cut was great. The stylist listened to everything I wanted and paid lots of attention to what I liked and did not like. It was very expensive (good job I wasn't the one paying!), but overall it's the best hairdressers I've been to so far.
by Anonymous, 16 Apr 2007Absolutely terrible. Have been twice and both times it was a disaster. The colourist is awful (I had to stay back till after closing whilst she dyed my hair THREE times to fix it). The stylist cut hair like someone who had only just stepped out of training college. They tried to sweeten me with a free shampoo but I told them to keep it.
by claireelizabeth, 05 Feb 2007My friend goes there and recommended I try it. Well, let's just say black hair with blonde highlights is not a good look! I paid £150 for them to basically ruin my hair - definitely not worth it. I don't see what all the fuss is about.
by boozie, 01 Feb 2007I have never been treated so rudely. I paid over-the-top prices (£170 for a cut and half head of foils) and got treated like dirt and had to wear my hair back for 3 months. Never again!
by sparkles76, 10 Jan 2007For a top salon I don't think it was great. I had a 'top stylist' who was wondering what to get his girlfriend for Christmas. Like I care?! Don't need that small talk when spending a lot of money on a cut and colour. Not at all happy with the cut either. Spent 20 mins lying upside down at the wash basin as they were having problems with their water... My advice is not to go, unless you have five hairs and just want the scalp polished.
by Anonymous, 15 Dec 2006I went to Cobella for my wedding hair cut and colour. The hair cut was good and the colour was just perfect for my wedding day. Will be recommending them to all my friends.
by mrs nelson, 29 Nov 2006Awful! They were rudeand unprofessional. I went with hair down to my lower back. I asked for a cm to be cut off and I left with only a cm of hair! Made me cry for days at my buzzed hair. I will never return.
by annnnonumus, 24 Oct 2006I went to Cobellas for a couple of years. Most of the time they automatically knew what I wanted and what was best for my hair.
They were great with offerings of coffee or other drinks. Scalp massage was fab and not rushed. The salon is modern, light and airy. The spa downstairs is nice also (but not the best ever).
A couple of times in those 2 years, they did get it slightly wrong, and after speaking with the manager, they offered a free cut next time.
Was absolutely disappointed with my haircut. I felt that it was completely rushed, did not listen to me whatsoever and hacked my lovely long hair. Not just that but I had hair in my tea. I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone!
by anonymous!!!!!!!!!!, 23 Mar 2006Go on, treat yourself! These guys are brilliant, true artists. They've restored my faith in London salons. After a very in-depth consultation (which did not cost me a penny) I saw a colourist, a stylist and a beautician. I took the plunge, and in front of my eyes a more youthful new me emerged. I have been tastefully transformed. I feel great, and even got asked out on a date that night on my way home!
by marcy, 04 Feb 2006Have we missed a great hair salon in London? Let us know.
