Mathew is truly talented! His uniqueness is totally 'getting you' and translating that into a style which sets you apart and totally supports your whole image.
I am a stylist and need to work with a hairdresser who not only understands my own image and how that needs to be translated, but whom I can also trust to work with my clients and provide them with an amazing look that totally captures their individuality.

So I'm down in West London doing an interview for this geek mag and the chick who's come along to do the photo says: "Oh my god, your hair is, like, so 1980s. Come with me", and she drags me off down to the south end of South Molton Street and into this chic hair salon, 'Mathew Alexander'. So the stylist, who I later find out is the Mathew of Mathew Alexander looks me over and talks about my head shape, how he sees me, the way my hair naturally falls and its colour and says: "The pony tail has got to go!" Now me and my pony tail have been through a lot together but I just get the feeling that I should put my faith in this Mathew guy. Well, that was a couple of weeks ago and I'm so impressed. I'm walking taller, I catch myself looking at my reflection in shop windows and I'm getting hit on by chicks. I now understand why women spend so much time and money on a good hair stylist when they find one - because I have.

Been going to the same hairdresser for a while now and, although happy, thought I needed a change. Did a bit of research through Urban Path and decided to try Mathew Alexander. I have to say that from booking my appointment, right through to walking out of the salon with my updated style, this was the best hair experience I've ever had.
Jenny is brilliant. Technically, she is a perfectionist and she really took the time to find out what I wanted. In the end I went with her suggestion of how it should be cut and walked out feeling literally 10 years younger.
The atmosphere in the salon is friendly, professional and fun. Can't recommend this salon highly enough. Lastly, and this is only a small point but one that really bugs me, they don't charge you for a coffee like all the other top salons.

I have been having my hair cut by Mathew for several years, and each time I walk out I am even more pleased than the last. I have never had a haircut which is less than fantastic - Mathew is great at listening to what you say, but also at using his own judgement to decide what will suit you best. Everyone at the salon is always friendly, helpful and professional. Look no further.

I love this salon and am a weekly regular. Jen does amazing colour and blowdrys and Mathew is a great cutter and stylist as well. I got him to teach me to do makeup after 20 years of getting it wrong and it has really updated my look. After years of going to large trendy salons with staff with attitude, this is a revelation!

I've been having my hair cut and coloured by Mathew for some time and he is the best stylist I've ever had - he makes me feel young and sexy and my colour is fabulous. The salon is a tranquil oasis and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Top marks.

Jennifer has coloured and cut my hair twice now and it is fantastic! In fact, I went into my local salon for a beauty treatment and the colourist asked me where I had my hair done as it looked great... which makes a change from the usual scrutiny and sales pitch to get it done there!
Lovely surroundings and very friendly staff. Mathew is actually working in the salon, as opposed to just being a mysterious name above the door, which is nice to see. I won't get my hair done anywhere else!

I have frequented Mathew Alexander for the past two and a half years and although I agree that the faces have changed you cannot dispute that the level of service has indeed only got better. I have had my hair cut by all three stylists and although Mathew is a little more pricy it's easy to see why by the end result. Luke and Jennifer have also cut my hair at various times and although both were good cuts Jennifer's blowdry and attention to detail was far better for a mere £20 more.
I find it hard to believe that someone who has enjoyed the salon for so long would leave such a comment, as the salon is still the same pleasurable place to be and the new staff just as lovely as the old. Let's also remember that the staff hired are not intended to live out the rest of their days in there for whatever the reasons may be. If you feel that strongly then simply follow the stylist you enjoy to their next place of work. I feel that the comment is nothing more than spiteful and petty and doesn't reflect the level of service that my friends and I receive at the salon.

NOT HAPPY!! First Loraine (superb colourist) left, then Xena (great meeter/greeter), now Luke (great stylist)! We're left with Mathew (too expensive) and Jennifer (good on colour, but not cutting). My partner and I were Luke's regulars, and have left positive reviews in the past as it really was a great experience in a great salon, but no more. Will go elsewhere as cannot pay Mathew's price. Why such a high turnover of staff in less than 2 years? It's awful to find a stylist you are totally happy with then, when you ring for an appointment, he's not there anymore. Where are Luke and Loraine??

The Mathew Alexander experience is one to truly relish. If the entertainment factor wasn't enough (Mathew lifts one's spirits the moment he says 'hello' and things progress from there), the consultation is first-rate, the surroundings are salubrious, the head massage under the warm water is so relaxing, and you can even have a manicure whilst your colour is developing. It's divine!
The cut will have people complimenting you on looking fantastic for weeks. It's the kind of A-Lister Hollywood style you can't buy at attractive entry points. Worth every penny I say, as you leave looking like the kind of you you dreamt you might be when you walked in. Hats off to Team Mathew Alexander & Co - I shall definitely be coming back!

I really like this little salon and I am very happy the way Mathew did my hair and make up. He is adorable and very talented! The rest of the staff seem to be very nice too. The salon is like a pretty little cottage hidden away in the middle of the West End. It was a real treat.

I had Mathew cut my hair for the second time and also had my highlights done by Jennifer. The colour and cut is really nice and all my friends said it's lovely. The salon is small but the atmosphere is lovely and intimate.

I went for Biolustre treatment and a blow dry with Mathew. The treatment is always wonderful, since I have very processed hair. But they miscommunicated and somehow I ended up sitting there with a wet head for 40 minutes. I was told over and over again that Mathew would be with me shortly, which didn't happen. Since I had another appointment later on, I was left no option but to take matters into my own hands and roughly blew dried my own hair. At least the stylist next to me kept on apologizing as she worked on her own client.
Anyway, it was a very cosy and cute salon and I have re-booked my treatment so I can see whether Mathew is a good hairdresser or not. Will update my review later. I have to say though, from a business point of view, Mathew should have offered me a discount for the sake of good customer relations.
P.S. Luke did my treatment for me and is a nice bloke.
(Update: I went back again and Mathew was so sweet. Because they messed up last time, he gave me two big bottles of shampoo and conditioners from the Biolustre range, which were great!)

Very boring cut and Mathew made my curly hair into a complete frizz ball by using far too much product and endless playing with it whilst blow drying.
Found Mathew to be quite moody and self-absorbed. Won't be going back. Way too expensive.

Love this salon! It's discreet and charming with a totally personal service. Luke is wonderful - he listens and advises and I always leave feeling special. He also cuts my partner's hair brilliantly and he's even fussier than me! Do not hesitate to go to this great little salon.

The reviews are legit - I can vouch for the fact that Mathew is fabulous! I found him here and can't wait to go back. I've been to Richard Ward and Hari, both are great, but Mathew has it all and more. Best haircut ever, professional approach yet so nice, lovely salon - all A+. Thank you, Mathew!

Mathew made me feel 'Sex And The City'. It's not just having your hair done, it's the whole experience. Pampered to the max, I felt glamorous and sexy. Go there!

I have been twice now to this wonderful salon and will continue to go there. My hair has never looked better and I am often complimented on it. The staff (of which I am not one!) are totally professional but at the same time friendly and welcoming. If you want a fantastic cut and colour in lovely surroundings where you are made to feel special, Mathew Alexander is the place to go.

These reviews are clearly written by staff, as the haircut I received for the price of £120 was terrible! I had to go and have it cut again elsewhere, having two inches taken off the length because of damage incurred by the crap razor technique adopted by said stylist. Avoid at all costs!
