I have been going to Mathew now for about 5 years and he is amazing. Everyone in the salon is very welcoming and you are never made to feel rushed (very important for someone with long thick hair like me - I am never going to fit into a 45 min slot like so many salons give you). They do an amazing cut, amazing colour, the salon's in a great location and I always have a laugh when I go. Mathew is a friend now, not just a hairdresser. If you are looking for the best cut of your life, you need to meet Mathew.

I went there about two years ago for a hair cut. I'm one of those people who just tends to let it grow until it is halfway down my back before I get it cut. Yeah, I know, I should grow up and get it cut more often.
My instructions: "Cut it any way you want as long as I can put it in a ponytail". To which he, Mathew, responded by doing something marvellous to my hair. I got a lot of compliments, including a jaw-drop from an ex-girlfriend, which was totally worth it.

My appointment with Mathew (for highlights and a trim) is something I look forward to whenever I see the entry in my calendar. The hours spent in his charming little salon are wonderfully relaxing and leave me feeling pampered and re-energised. A beautifully decorated place, tea served from dainty wee cups, often chatting to strangers as if they were friends, and a stylist who absolutely brings the best out in me and is so passionate about getting the cut just right and achieving the perfect set of highlights.
Mathew also did my hair and makeup for my wedding. Even my mother (so hard to please) was thrilled and still mentions what a great job he did.
For me, visiting Mathew Alexander is a treat, pure and simple; an event that is out of the ordinary and gives great pleasure.

Mathew cuts my hair once or twice a year. He always leaves me looking like the beautiful woman I want to be. I leave his salon feeling like a film star. I think he's the best hairdresser in London. I'd rather have two expensive haircuts a year than go to anybody else.

I chose this salon after a lot of research online. I wanted a salon where I would receive the personal touch, as I wanted to have my really long hair cut to a shorter but still trendy style. Like most women, my hair is a massive deal to me.
I found Mathew initially very charming, but soon discovered that he didn't really listen to me. Whilst the cut is good, the finish wasn't what I wanted. I initially said that I didn't like my hair straight and flat and liked a lot of body and bounce. I ended up with really straight, flat hair, albeit glossy and shiny.
When I asked if it could have some more 'oompf', his manner changed completely and he could hardly talk to me. Whilst I understand that his next client had turned up, I thought that for £145 I had a right to leave feeling good about my hair. He put heated rollers in and back-combed it a lot. I ended up looking like 'V' in Eastenders! I couldn't wait to leave - which wasn't the result I'd hoped for.
I was really disappointed. I would have continued to go to him if I had been pleased, regardless of the cost. All it would have taken is for him to have listened to me a bit more and asked a few questions - not a lot to expect for a £145 haircut!

I travel 2 hours there and 2 hours back, to get my haircut by Mathew. Mathew and his staff are great and welcoming. Mathew is an artist, he does exactly what you ask him. I truly advise people to go to him.

This is the most amazing salon ever. Mathew has cut my hair for over ten years and I'm loving it that he now works from his own salon where his staff follow his personal ethos of making a trip to the hairdressers a fun and relaxing experience. Every client is made to feel special and I'm always sent home with amazing hair and feeling like a million dollars. Hopefully, by passing on this ethos to his staff they will take it on to other salons as they move onwards and upwards. I can highly recommend Mathew Alexander for expertise, friendliness and attention to every little detail.

Many people think I'm crazy to travel from Yorkshire to London for a hair cut and colour, but I have tried other stylists closer to home and haven't found anyone who comes close to Mathew's creative abilities.
The salon is inviting, staff are very friendly, and when I'm in the hot seat I have complete trust in Mathew. When I decided to get married in New York, I booked Mathew to come along and work his magic on my special day. Without him I wouldn't have looked or felt as glamorous as I did. It truly is amazing how his make-up skills can transform you and make you look so different. He has done my make-up on other occasions and he never ceases to amaze me.
Mathew's natural artistic flair for making you look and feel fabulous is rather addictive. I definitely recommend you pay him a visit.

Have recently discovered this gem. Forget therapy, instead spend a few hours being made to feel fabulous by Mathew, Sophie and the team. Had a complete style change and colour to prepare for a new job and career change. Couldn't be more pleased with the results. Fab colour and cut and, more than that, Mathew and the team make you feel thoroughly spoiled and I cannot recommend them enough!

Mathew has been doing my hair for the past 8 months and I am completely hooked! He is just the best in every way - fabulous colourist, excellent cutter and thoroughly entertaining to boot! Each time I go, I have such a lovely relaxing time and never, ever feel rushed. The most amazing thing for me is that when I first went to Mathew my hair was not in great condition, but now, despite regularly receiving a whole head bleach, my hair is unbelievably soft and strong. Don't think, just go - you won't regret it!

Mathew has been cutting my hair for over 7 years and I would never go anywhere else. He always makes me feel welcome and comfortable when I return to his salon. He listens to what I want and always delivers! This time as a treat he dyed my rather over-plucked eyebrows. Ladies, let me tell you the results are astounding. For the first time in years I have defined eyebrows which really open up my eyes. Thank you Mathew, you are a gem!

Bespoke certainly, but overpriced + flamboyantly self-promoting.
When I arrived (2 mins early) I did a quick u-turn as the place was empty, silent, cleaning stuff was out and I thought I'd got the wrong place (10am no less).
The distinct impression I got (given rave reviews elsewhere!) is that they're complacent. Bathroom filthy (admittedly they were refurbishing... but I paid a lot of money). It strikes me as outrageously lacking in care. It's not about them, it's about the customer. Even non-celebs who adore good hair.
The colour and cut, yes, they were good. Hence the 3-star rating. But I won't be going again. I'm happy to pay the same for efficient, anonymous professionalism. Where my money is as good as the next person's.

For a person that dislikes getting their hair done and that rarely gives compliments, my visit to Mathew Alexander was a breath of fresh air. I have been to another well-known hairdresser, where I experienced stuffiness, rudeness and no care for the customer. Mathew and his salon were completely different. I found him really pleasant, humorous and respectful. I do not have the best hair, but he was not at all condescending about it. He was a little late with my appointment, which was no biggie for me as the weather was bad and I expected to wait. However, he was extremely apologetic, gave me a free product and 25% off!
What I loved the most is the attention he gave to the hairstyle that I wanted. He made a point of sitting with me beforehand to see what I wanted in my haircut. I'm very particular, but he was receptive to that. I had a lot of requests on how and what to do with my hair. Nothing was a problem for him and he accommodated all the requests. The final result of my haircut? Great! It was exactly what I wanted AND he cut and blowdried my hair - not like other high-profile stylists who get a junior to blowdry. I thought it was value for money for what I got. Mathew himself brightened my day with his humour. Finally found a great stylist!

It has been a busy year but I have finally got round to posting this review about Donna at Mathew Alexander.
I got married this year and Donna worked her magic on my hair and make-up, and also my bridesmaids' hair. I know everyone looks amazing on their wedding day but Donna did a brilliant and professional job. This lady knows exactly what she is doing in this industry and has years of experience.
I felt wonderful, and had a hairstyle that wasn't the usual style I would have expected from most hairdresses. I know you might think that I am biased as it was my wedding day, but you are reading this from someone who follows her current hairdresser around Cheshire because having tried many others and been disappointed I like to keep with the same high standard of hairdresser!
Previous to my wedding day Donna had also cut and styled my hair at an event we were at and it was the first time I felt it had been cut correctly. I have long hair, and Donna knew what to do to stop it feeling heavy but to keep the length.
The salon where Donna, Matthew and the rest of the team are based is lovely and has a great atmosphere. If I lived in London, I would definitely be a regular. I wish you all the best success in life.

Absolutely terrible. I had my hair RUINED by Donna - it will take ages to grow back the pieces she appears to have randomly hacked off. It's a terrible mess and I'm actually embarrassed about my hair for the first time ever. Also, beware the hidden extra costs they don't tell you about – i.e. the £50 blow dry which you have to have after any cut or colour. On top of the already massively inflated prices, this is enough to break the camel's back – especially when it leaves you looking like a dog's dinner. Overall I was beyond disappointed.

Before Mathew became my hairdresser I tried many of the top London salons and never returned to any of them. I have been a client of Mathew's for approximately 10 years and would not dream of having my hair coloured or cut by anyone else. He is an absolute genius with a pair of scissors and knows exactly what colour suits one's skin tone etc.
The salon is very tastefully decorated, with a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere. The products used on one's hair - i.e. conditioner, shampoo or colour - are all the best available on the market. Fernando, who shampoos, gives the best head massage ever.
Do yourself a favour and go to Mathew Alexander's salon - you will not go to another salon, I guarantee you.

I wanted to have my hair coloured (to cover greys - eek!) but as it was my first time colouring my hair I was pretty nervous and so really keen to find someone who would do a good job. From the reviews here I made a booking with Jenny and my appointment was last night - and it was brilliant! Jenny somehow manages to be a total perfectionist whilst being really calm and relaxed at the same time. As a result, my colour was matched perfectly (so nobody will ever know!), and my haircut is better than it's been in maybe 10 years! And although I arrived at the salon straight from work and off the rush-hour tube so very flustered, I left feeling gorgeous and totally relaxed. I will definitely be back.

Having grown my hair for 10 years I wanted a change, and given how precious I am about my hair, I knew that the only way I would be happy with the experience was if I went to someone totally proficient in cutting. Mathew totally delivered. The salon was charming and didn't feel like a conveyor belt like so many of the large salons (which cost at least as much). I left with the most gorgeous short hair cut, which people are still commenting on almost a month on. I feel utterly chic - and this comes from someone who thought there was no way you could look quite as fabulous with short hair. I was wrong! Believe the reviews and the hype... (although let's hope I don't get priced out of the market owing to his popularity!)

Well, I had my colour and cut done by Mathew almost three months ago and still love it just as much as I did the day it was done - that's what I call the perfect hairdo!

I wanted to treat myself over the weekend to a colour and cut so, after reading the reviews, promptly decided that Mathew Alexander would be the place to visit.
I booked in for a full head of highlights with Jenny and arranged to have my cut with Mathew. Three letters: WOW! The salon was just the right size and very friendly, all the staff took the time to talk to me and I could relax in this wonderful calm oasis. Jenny was great and listened to what I was trying to achieve, the results were fabulous, the colour was just right and exactly what I was looking for. Mathew again took time talking through my style and what could be tweaked in order to gain the end result, he really listened and offered valuable advice.
Once Matthew had worked his magic, the results were amazing - I felt and, hopefully, looked incredible. I have already had loads of positive comments and would definitely recommend this salon.
