The Lounge Soho reviews
Absolutely the one and only place to have your hair cut and coloured in London. This is a laid-back but hip place to relax in. You don't feel intimidated by overly cool people who are more interested in looking at themselves in the mirror. Yes, they have a fabulous range of drinks and really good music but, most importantly, The Lounge only hires the very best (and your hair is the real reason for going to the hairdressers, after all).
They have really really high standards. I have been in when a stylist was being 'tested' for a week on his work, before even being offered a job - scary! The best thing is that they all take pride in treating each client as an individual and their priority is helping you to get exactly what you want from your hair. This is not just because that's the policy either - every time I have looked around in there, the stylists are really listening to the client in front of them.
Joe Mills is the best cutter I have ever had the privilege to meet and I have had my hair cut in many places around the globe. Never again though - I will only ever let Joe cut my hair these days. It's not just me, every single person I have recommended to go there comes away with the same resolution: "This is my hairdresser for life".
Booked in based on the great reviews here and their website press but before I saw the bad review. Not sure I would have gone if I had, but thank god no horror cut to report! Quite the opposite in fact, a superb modern bob. Great music and massage. The Saturday I visited was very busy, and it's quite a small salon, so avoid weekends if you prefer less commotion.
by goldenlady, 27 Apr 2008A fantastic salon, which offers the latest cuts without being OTT. My cut is fantastic, and Jolene who cut my hair was superb. She talked me through every element of what she was doing and, importantly, told me how to maintain the excellent and super-cool look she gave me.
by mynameisearl, 27 Apr 2008Very good all round, one star missing as the stylist was running late but to be fair this was probably due to the previous fussy client! My cut was very now (new fringe) and friends have been very envious (two have now booked in). Would recommend the salon for the drinks, atmosphere and on-trend styles. But although the location is central it's not that easy to find.
by Rach72, 23 Apr 2008I got probably the worst haircut in the past 15 years, part of me wanted to cry and part of me just hysterically laughed. I'd had many bad scarecuts, but this one is an exception! 4 inch of my hair is somewhere in the bin, 50 quid in their till and I am sporting a ponytail from now on. the only star is for the glass of wine I had.
by Kam26 (2 reviews), 22 Apr 2008Lovely, lovely people. Warm, accommodating and a wonderful colour and cut from Jolene. She took a long time over my whole consultation and explained the why's/how's so I could re-create at home. The reviews are spot on, don't miss the relaxed urban chic experience!
by Katttie, 19 Apr 2008I've been going to The Lounge since it opened and seeing Joe for a haircut even longer than that. Though I now work out of town, I still travel in for a cut - I just wouldn't go anywhere else. The salon is in the perfect location, in the heart of Soho but just off the beaten track. The interior is cool but relaxed, a comfortable, unpretentious place to spend an hour. I sit down with a coffee or beer, leave the decision as to what will look right to Joe, have a good chat and walk out feeling better every time. Always a great cut that looks good when you exit... and lasts. The Lounge deserves all the praise it gets.
by Chris H, 18 Apr 2008Superb head massages, sharp cuts, cool interior – what more could you want from a hairdressers?
by concis88, 16 Apr 2008I have lived in London for 33 years and been going to The Lounge for the last 10. I find it an unbeatable experience, what getting your hair cut should be; quality assured, relaxed yet professional, cool yet unpretentious. I know what ever mood I enter, I always come out feeling better about life. Top that!
by lee greenwood, 10 Apr 2008I have been getting my hair cut and coloured here for 7 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. It's a really great atmosphere - cool but not pretentious at all. I always feel very relaxed and never worried about how my hair cut will turn out. My latest do makes me look about 10 years younger - I am loving it! The products are fab too. You can spend a day there easily, food and drinks are available and there's always a good shoulder to cry on (or laugh!)... Get involved.
by Luce abi, 10 Apr 2008I have to agree with previous reviewers and say how lovely all the staff were when I visited, which definitely makes the experience. For a small back-street salon with very reasonable prices, you would never imagine the quality of service and stylists. The massage chairs were also a nice touch, especially after a hard day at the office! If you like a personal service and independent salons, The Lounge Soho is a must.
by AnnaMac, 08 Apr 2008My cut in March was perfect (it's the first time a hairdresser has been willing to cut my curly hair into a curly style - usually it's straightened to within an inch of its life). However, the decor is starting to look tired.
by shel_london, 05 Apr 2008Ferdia cut my hair over three months ago and I am STILL getting complimented on the cut, even though I just washed my hair and left the house this morning without styling it! This alone should tell you about the quality of the cutting and styling on offer. The salon is quirky and small but very welcoming and friendly and, for the fabulous cut I got, a bargain considering I have paid more at other places for an inferior cut. Everyone at The Lounge is friendly from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Go there and be pleasantly surprised. I can't recommend The Lounge enough.
by lilou, 01 Apr 2008I'm thrilled to have found a great salon at last, after months of searching since arriving in the UK. I love this place, it's funky and cool with the nicest staff. They make you feel welcome and unique. I've had my hair cut by Joe twice now and each time it's been fabulous.
by BSM, 02 Feb 2008Friendliest salon I've been to in years and the finest of cuts to boot - marvellous!
by juvejon (2 reviews), 22 Jan 2008Very welcoming, non-pretentious salon where everyone makes you feel reassured and comfortable. The salon is quirky in its fittings and design but very cool because of it. Apart from obvious high levels of stylist ability, the salon is about the whole experience. For me, it was a nice change from the usual salons which do not include as much creativity, uniqueness or thought-out extras. After my sharp new hairstyle, I will be returning very soon for the complimentary 'in-between cuts' fringe maintenance with pleasure.
by remmy_j, 08 Jan 2008I absolutely loved this salon after attending for the first time last week after reading all the great reviews here. It didn't disappoint. Friendly staff, very creative, cool atmosphere without being too exclusive. I'd recommend to any of my friends (and have).
by clarelucy, 13 Nov 2007It was really nice to get a personal response when I emailed the salon, and Joe's recommendation was spot on - Ferdia rocks curly hair and I now have a fab, manageable style for my unruly mane! I'll definitely be going back.
by lmcm, 11 Nov 2007I recommend Liga for highlights. Very natural colour and quick application, but not rushed. The cost was very reasonable considering the West End location and the complimentary extras. Nearly forgot, Emma did a fantastic blow dry to finish.
