Chutney Mary reviews
Coming from up north I was expecting great things, but I was disappointed in the extreme. This is a restaurant that has pretensions and prices way beyond its ability to deliver.
This is a shame, because there are some delicious flavours on offer in some of the dishes. My starter of scallop malabar consisted of ONE, yes one, queen scallop cut in half covered with a nondescript malabar sauce and a curry leaf... and I was expected to pay £11 for it! You are kidding. Couple that with abysmal service and you have a place to avoid. I also removed the service charge but the bill still came to just short of £200 for two courses for 4, with drinks. As I said, avoid!!

Having enjoyed a very good meal, I was extremely annoyed to note that a 12% service charge had been added to my bill. I deplore this practice and always ask to whom is it going - staff or management? I was told that they were "not allowed" to tell me!! To me this obviously means that the management would receive it and not the staff. The service charge was NOT paid. This kind of attitude is a disgrace.

I took a friend here for her birthday as she loves Indian food but lives in Italy so she doesn't have it that often. We were very excited about going to this well-known restaurant. On our arrival the place was empty (a Sunday afternoon) and we were told we could choose our table. Our drinks and non-memorable starter arrived quickly, but as we tucked in we were asked to move to another table as we were apparantly sitting at a table frequented by 'regulars' who'd already booked it. We were made to feel that we should move and i'm embarrassed to say that we actually did.
This is the memory of our experience of Chutney Mary's. I can't remember what the rest of the food was like. If I want an expensive Indian meal in the S.W. area of London I will be returning to The Cinnamon Club every time as the food, service and experience was far far more enjoyable.

Well, what can I say about this restaurant, other than 'avoid it like the plague!' It is massively overpriced (and I was expecting it to be expensive) for food that is woefully under par.
We went for the full taster menu and had our breath taken away with each course (for all the wrong reasons). The main currys consisted of ropey old knuckle of lamb, small pieces of chicken in rather unimpressive sauces, and so on. This may have been authentic, but not at these prices!
There are so many better Indian restaurants in London that no-one need go to the trouble of losing in excess of one hundred quid a head for appalling food ever again... (and PS, I've been to Nobu, paid a hell of a lot more and loved every minute of it; the difference was clear - the quality of the food).

Great food, but you pay for it! Spicier than you might predict, so go for beer rather than wine you will not be able to taste! Awesome service and good atmosphere.

This place is wicked. Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere. Special occasions for me though as a bit pricey.
