Award-winning restaurant serving some of London's best Indian cuisine at reasonable prices. Large, attractive restaurant, efficient service and an alfresco garden for summer dining.

The Painted Heron reviews
My boyfriend and I ate here recently (Valentine's night) and the food was nice. If it hadn't been for the 3 glasses of wine that were poured all over me and in my starter, plus the separate tray of red wine that was dropped by my feet, spraying all over my shoes, handbag and coat as the waiter ran up the stairs, I'd say this would have been a nice evening overall... However, it was a disaster. The service lets this restaurant down immensely and we received no compensation for our appalling evening except an apology from the waiter, blaming the inexperience of the new waitress! I recommend The Painted Heron cleans up its act!

We had high expectations, having looked at the menu on the restaurant's website as well as seen the various positive reviews this restaurant has received. All in all, it was pretty disappointing.
The restaurant looked very impressive, stylish and cool when we came in. The highlight was the delicious and incredibly tasty chutney and other sauces served with the papadums. The chilli naan bread was also very good and the wine list well chosen.
Some of the disappointments were as follows:
- Restaurant too noisy.
- All of the lamb in its various guises was overcooked, tasteless and tough.
- The sauce served with the chicken starter was very unpleasant.
- Despite being attentive and friendly, the waiting staff had a poor command of English.
There's another modern gourmet Indian restaurant in Battersea Square (Battersea Rickshaw - just over the river), which is frustratingly not reviewed on this website (despite my recommendation). Their food really is delicious and their service spot on. Go there if you're excited about terrific Indian food. Go to the Painted Heron if you prefer style over substance.

A refreshing change from your standard curry. Excellent and original menu, often with game in season, and a good wine list. Friendly staff, though they sometimes get overwhelmed if it's full.

Just went there for dinner, Tuesday night. Too noisy at the back area of the restaurant where we were sitting. They definitely need to add some sound-absorbing materials.
The food was so-so, but not great. The papadams were too oily but the ingredients seemed quite fresh.

The best and most welcoming restaurant! The perfect mix of mouth watering, scintillating Indian dishes with contemporary but luxurious surroundings. Please don't change!

This is, without a doubt, my favourite place for Indian on a night out. Service and food is excellent, and more importantly, consistent! A definite must.
