Adam Street reviews
I am a member there and I think it's a great place. There is always a buzzy atmosphere and I invariably have a good time when I go. Great food too by the way!
by S.J., 19 Mar 2008I had a great time here and found that, even though I have only been a couple of times, the staff recognised me and looked after my party really well. The food was to die for and the bill was not too bad either!
by S.K., 18 Mar 2008Went there the other day with a couple of friends. We walked straight in, had a drink in the very empty, souless bar and walked straight out again AND no one even bothered to ask us if we were members. Call yourself a members' club? I don't think so.
by Mr Ben, 25 Jan 2008I believe Adam Street is a wonderful place. When I have visited in the daytime the bar is always buzzing with people working away on their laptops or talking about the next big idea. The staff are smiley and professional and there are familar faces who will always stop for a chat. At night the vaults are different, far more laid back and a younger theatre-y crowd. Agreed, you never know what to expect when you walk down the stairs, but I have never had a bad night out there. The food is exceptional and fairly priced in the restaurant and the bar does a great line in sharing snack platters - try the butcher's board!
by Ed Cooke, 11 Oct 2007When this club opened a few years ago it was one of my favourite places in London but now it lacks atmosphere, service and originality. BORING (yawn yawn).
by Unkown, 29 Aug 2007A very good imitation of a private members' bar, but certainly not the real deal. Join if you can't get into the Carlton or Black's.
by Anonymous, 16 Feb 2007Brilliant place to drop in for business meetings during the week, with the best shepherd's pie in London. Evenings can be exceptional or quiet - bit of a lottery. Great events programme.
by Anonymous, 12 Jan 2007I attended the Anti-Valentine's party which was great...full of gorgeous people! Drinks a bit pricey, as like anywhere else in London, but a nice cosy place.
by miman-safiya (3 reviews), 02 Mar 2006I went here last weekend and had a fabulous time. Great food, and snappy service and funky cocktails.
What a gem!
Went to a private party here last night. Cool venue, but the reception staff were surly and unhelpful.
by Anonymous, 13 Oct 2005This is a gem of a place. Excellent food, top service and unique and luxurious surroundings. Definitely recommended.
by Christian, 25 Aug 2005I've been a member for about a year and I love it. The food is great, the staff are really friendly and always stop to chat. I do go pretty regularly and the more you go the more you get out of it. It's a great venue to hold meetings and also really good for a night out. I think it's the best members club in London.
by nortyk (2 reviews), 20 Jul 2005I think that some of the comments have concentrated too much on the food, excellent though it is. The main advantage to Adam Street is its great atmosphere, and friendly bar staff. Out of peak times the facilities are good and it's a great place to chill. Peak times can be manic with few places to sit, but I think the reason to be a member of any club is to be able to go there after hours and to while away the hours with a good brandy. Adam Street is ideal for this.
by ChrisG, 20 Jul 2005I've been a member here for a couple of years and the staff have ALWAYS been fantastic and the food outstanding.
Granted the reception staff do keep your guests waiting at reception, but in general I've ALWAYS had a fantastic evening when I've been there. The staff have got it just right... friendly without being overbearing!
I have been a member for a year and have noticed a general deterioration in service.
In the last couple of months I have had side dishes arrive AFTER everyone at the table had finished eating their main courses and having asked for them three times. There is one waitress who is fantastic and always friendly otherwise I have felt recently that when trying to catch the eye of a staff member I have been putting them out. Service is now incredibly slow.
While the food is of good quality the menu is almost the same as it was a year ago - I'm bored with it.
On my last visit just two weeks ago, my guest was left waiting 45 minutes in reception while I was waiting in the bar for them to arrive. The notion of checking the visitor book to see that I had signed in an hour before hand had clearly not occurred to the receptionist.
It's a great shame as I was really excited to become a member - not any more.
Although, admittedly, the food is fantastic, the service is shocking, really appalling.
I was there on my birthday with 11 friends (weeknight, so we only had a couple of bottles of wine for the table - no one was rowdy/drunk). Amongst other things, a waitress told one friend to "get out of her way unless she wanted boiling water down her back" and an extra friend was left standing (literally) when they told him he couldn't use an unused chair in the (practically empty) restaurant.
Then came the amusing bit - when we refused to leave all the optional gratuity (they were lucky we left any) the waitress COMPLAINED! A further note of caution: I have been a member for about a year and have also been overcharged twice (once by £20) in the restaurant. Considering I have only been about 7/8 times, this seems a far too high percentage to me, so make sure you check your bill. Needless to say, I am cancelling my membership as soon as possible.
I've been a member for a couple of years now. The food IS great - however, have to disagree with previous review - staff are generally great!
Top place!
