Groucho reviews
If you really want to be in a fun-filled place, then it has to be the Groucho... every time. Those that slag it off are just pissed off not to have got through the strict vetting process.
by jane 'bubbles' smith, 24 Mar 2008If you've never been louche in the Groucho, you're not as interesting as you think you are. Some get it. Others don't. Pity them.
by princess1, 12 Feb 2008I was invited by one of the members for a business lunch in the dining room, which was fantastic. The staff are very professional and friendly. I have also been there in the evening for a private event with friends and the atmosphere was great. If you are lucky enough to get in, it is a great place.
by Liza, 16 Jan 2008I've only been here a couple of times for early drinks with a friend who is a member and, to be honest, it's nothing special. It was packed both times, and full of noisy media types (I work in the media, but there's no need to be that noisy and attention-seeking!). If you want to have a proper conversation without shouting, go somewhere else.
by bobbypants "top london reviewer" (55 reviews), 17 Jun 2007If it is so hard to become a member, how do these "ferocious looking old Geman ladies" get in then?
by Nika000, 29 May 2007Why do people go there? Old, dirty, overrated, overpriced, smelly...
by sugar (2 reviews), 02 Feb 2007It gets a bit rowdy at night but it's excellent at lunch. Upstairs under the cool arched conservatory roof you can hear yourself licking your chops as you look at a really interesting new menu - and the slight intake of breath when you catch sight of the price!
by Beamish, 19 Oct 2006I have been to the Groucho on numerous occasions, but only because it's the regular haunt of a friend. It looks a bit shabby to be honest, and the membership rigmarole really isn't merited by what you get in return. I think it's had its best days.
by Vegetableman (3 reviews), 12 Oct 2006Despite it looking a bit "frayed"- it's really all right-downstairs can be a bit annoying. The restaurant is really quite crap. But the upstairs rooms are nice places to have drinks with friends.
by cavendish (6 reviews), 06 Apr 2006I am one of the "old pretentious men" mentioned in the previous review and I agree we may have possibly let in too many ferocious looking women. Or rather they have let in too many old men. The place is always a shambles these days as pretentious men and ferocious women tango dance around all night long smashing into tables, chairs, guests, and being boring. It's sickening really.
by Anonymous, 21 Jun 2005Worst overrated place that I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. Never again. Full of tired old pretentious men and ugly German ferocious looking women. Boring.
by Anonymous, 05 Feb 2005Have we missed a great members' club in London? Let us know.
