Alastair Little reviews

I had a decent lunch here in March - good set menu, friendly service, calm atmosphere - and so brought some friends back for dinner last week. It could not have been more different: service was slow to the point of comedy; a medium-rare steak was even less cooked than the still-twitching rare order (both went back to the kitchen and were returned in identical condition); the dodgy-tasting ("It tastes fine to the chef!") rhubarb pudding was served with a soup spoon; long, long gaps endured between courses. Maybe you have to be friends with the staff/owner - other tables seemed to be having a much better, and quicker, evening than we did...

It is fabulous - excellent food, expertly and charmingly served. You really feel like you are in someone's home, not a restaurant (I mean that in the best possible sense). The pride taken in the food, service and wine list is justified by the product.

We had lunch here for our anniversary and it was fabulous! Staff were excellent, as was the food. Only downside was the posh pseudo-scriptwriter having lunch loudly at the next table, then replaced by a group of advertising 'execs' who either didn't recognise much of the menu or wanted changes to almost every dish. Staff remained professional despite this - well done!

We arrived at the restaurant at 11pm on Saturday, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We ordered the risotto and oysters to start. For our main we had the lamb, and the organic salmon. The lamb was cooked to perfection, as was the rest of the food, service was attentive and very professional.

We were not made to feel rushed - definitely one of the best restaurants in Soho.

I had eels to which were the best I've eaten in many a year. The main was liver which was tender and sweet. Pudding was chocolate and totally yummy. The wine was very acceptable at the price and the service attentive.

Great food, a good wine list and efficient service in the middle of Soho. I keep forgetting it when people are asking for lunch suggestions around here but it's really quite hard to fault - I'd recommend it to anybody.
