Boxwood Cafe reviews

Went there for Valentine's day just gone and had a brilliant experience. Food was lovely and the service was excellent. Felt very welcomed and did not feel rushed at all. Beautiful venue too. Would definitely recommend!

My wife and I ate dinner at the Boxwood last night for our wedding anniversary. The location is convenient for Knightsbridge tube and is a short walk from Harvey Nichols where we had pre-dinner cocktails, although the bar in The Berkeley Hotel in which the Boxwood is situated looked great too.

It was easy to book, perhaps because of the time of year, and advertised that it was open to 1am, although when we finished our meal at around 11.30 we were the last in the lower restaurant.

The front of house were polite and accommodating. Slight criticism here - although the coats are taken at the front desk, they are left relatively unattended near to the front door and toilets.

We both went for the Tasting Menu at £55 per head. I also went for the tasting wines at £45.

The first course was a white onion soup, followed by raw salmon ceviche, both delicious. There was a vegetarian course of peppers, olives and feta followed by tuna (we were offered rare or well done) and then beef (slow cooked for 6 hours), which again were delicious. I ordered the selection of cheeses (at £8) and we were then given the dessert which was fruit and marshmellow chocolate fondue.

I don't claim to be a food snob, and found the whole experience enjoyable. The bill came to around £220 with aperitifs, and although the decor was low key it was very private and pretty romantic. The staff were very courteous and we were not hurried, left alone or made to feel like 2nd class citizens.

A party of three of us had dinner at this restaurant last week, and within two hours of leaving the restaurant were all violently ill. When I phoned the restaurant to complain they were unwilling to take any responsibility and said it was purely coincidental that all three of us were ill, even though the only common denominator was the restaurant. To add insult to injury, they highlighted the fact that food preparation, hygiene etc were excellent - which was ironic as when I visited the ladies' powder room, the receptionist walked straight out of the toilet without washing her hands!!

Truly the worst food I've ever eaten. Gordon Ramsay is such a hype and so is his food. London has 1000 times better to offer. The sad bit is that people's judgement is clouded by Gordon's celebrity and they tend to automatically assume his food is fabulous, which is not the case. All else was amazing at the Boxwood Cafe, but unfortunately the food absolutely sucked!

Great food and exceptional service. Very accommodating to our needs, with staff who were prompt and never intrusive. Will definitely visit again.

All flawless but a bit bland as a dining experience. I guess this a safe option for a date or to take the parents and it seems fairly kid-friendly.

Took a friend for a birthday lunch to the Boxwood and it was superb. The waitress was a delight - friendly without being obtrusive and over-familiar and she even rustled up a culinary birthday "treat" for my friend who was delighted. The food was outstanding and less than £70 for the pair of us. Have already booked again.

Bad, bad, bad... really find it hard to say anything remotely nice about the place. Food less than average especially their signature dish (veal burger). Service was very poor, wine arrived late and drinks arrived at the same time as the starter. I could go on and on.

Considering that I love every other Gordon Ramsay establishment, I am amazed this place is still open. Don't bother to go here, it's a total waste of money and was better when it was 'Vong'.

Had a fantastic meal here a few days ago. They were able to take a last minute booking of 6 instead of the reserved 2, and placed us in a small intimate dining room. The food was fantastic as was the service. Only complaint was that the red wine arrived mid way through the mains even though ordered before. Sat down at 9.30pm and the staff didn't complain when we eventually left at 1.20am. Will be going back there!
