Stylish restaurant and bar which brings quality 'modern eclectic' cooking to Bermondsey. The separate areas range from the semi-formal main dining area to a buzzing cocktail bar, and the decor combines an industrial feel with Scandinavian design themes. The accessible and imaginative menu offers something for every palette and the cooking is hard to fault.

Village East reviews

A beautiful venue with great food and great drinks, which only misses out on 5 stars for a couple of oversights.

A poor selection of beers compared to the excellent wine and cocktail list - only Brooklyn Lager and Black Sheep Ale and about 9 or 10 identical tasting mass produced Eurobrews is not a good beer selection, which considering the wine list is one of the most extensive I've seen, and the cocktail list features both obscure classics and delicious new creations, was a bit disappointing.

The service was great, informal but friendly, but the attention to detail could have been better. All our food was delicious and good value, but the plates were dirty (forgivable when they are piled with food, but when you get given an empty plate for a sharing dish and it's covered in grease it's not a good look!) and they forgot a couple of the side orders. Both these faults were quickly remedied, but I can't quite give this place a perfect score.

Still very good though!

I've been here a few times and the only disappointment has been that sometimes they no longer had any left of the dish we wanted. Suckling pig wasn't amazing, but I think that was an off night as everyone else I know has enjoyed it there. There is always a delightful variety on the menu and the service is pretty good. Also good for evening meals during the week, as not so busy that you'd need to book but busy enough that the atmosphere is perfect. Suitable for a party or business. It's one of my usual fall-back places if I can't think of somewhere new.

Why do places like this always serve awful beer? They pride themselves on their food, which we then have to wash down with cheap chemical-filled beer. Bring back real ale!

I took a friend for Sunday lunch. We were so surprised by this place. The staff were friendly and professional. We had suckling pig and rib eye steak with snails - both were excellent. I am definitely going to return. Fantastic!

I have been there a couple of times now and the food and the cocktails are superb. There's always something new and exciting!

Only been here for drinks but both times it's been a great place to chill on a Sunday afternoon. On my last visit the waiter suggested a great alternative bottle of wine to what we had chosen despite it being 25% cheaper. Not eaten here yet but the menu looks delicious.

A very cool, laid back vibe (bars on different levels and two sections to the restaurant make it feel like a member's club). The food was excellent - much better than expected and up there with some of London's best restaurants. The salad of charcuterie with hazelnuts and beans was fresh and the right side of salty, crispy bream worked surprisingly well with the sweet almond broth, followed by ice cream (all I could manage) which was out of this world and must have been home made. I guess the surprise at finding such great food in a trendy venue has made Village East stick in mind.

Ate here during its first week when you could have forgiven some teething troubles but we had a superb meal.

The menu's divided into meat, fish, vegetarian and salads, each of which are split into starters and mains. There are simple but perfectly prepared dishes such as grilled lobster and chips or steak frites as well as more "fine dining" options and everything we tried was excellent. Good wine list too - will be definitely be back.
