Having used this store regularly for the past 18 months, I have just had my first real issue with them. OK, some of the prices are higher than you can pay for the same products locally and you expect that. But having just been (or tried to be) charged £3.60 for some mashed potato, I am not too happy. Shame that shops can become a little bit too greedy on the people that support them.
by monksyl, 13 Aug 2007I had a bad experience with one of the security people. I was stalked from the moment I came into the store, and when I purchased an item with my brother (who has learning disability) I was asked to empty the contents of my bag and my brother's. No apology, even after I twice made a formal written complaint.
by Anonymous, 21 Feb 2007The staff are miserable but helpful, especially if you want to buy vitamins (they come bounding over from nowhere to assist and cleverly steer you over to buy the more expensive vitamins). I have a huge amount of food intolerances, so I put up with it as the shop is a godsend!
by Chiny, 16 Feb 2007I have been a regular buyer at this store for over 15 years...long before the new US owned owners took over. In fact, I come in to buy some, hopefully, fresh ( if not wild) produce at least five times a week...as do my partner and some friends who have lived in this area for over 25 years.
Regrettably, more recently, I have found standards in labelling and quality of produce diminishing...and the young assistants under pressure to re-stock without good quality control criteria. Sometimes you are lucky to get any labelling at all...so quick and strong is the pressure to refill shelves at any cost.
I cannot count the times I have had to return outwardly-wizened-in-24 hours-but-still-rock hard-inside peaches. And as to the flagrant buying of any out-of-season, luxury fruit (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry) at any cost to the environment...deeply disturbing. I feel you should really look at your ecological credentials viz. flying in produce from all over the world when you could be sourcing more locally.
The hot and cold food is revolting, and the staff unfriendly. I have recently gone back to Planet Organic and it's far better quality!
by Rosaclara, 18 Oct 2005The only reason I keep going back is the variety of produce. The hot and cold food is revolting, and takes a long time to come. Also completely un-seasonal. Don't buy the fresh fruit and vegetables as they are kept out for far too long, and freshened up by the glum staff.
The staff are rude and unhelpful. They frequently run out of things and more than once I have brought products that have been mouldy when I have got them home. And finally Fresh and Wild is no longer organic! It's new slogan is 'Real' food, so check the labels before you buy.
This shop makes me furious every time I order a drink. The one on Westbourne Grove takes 10 minutes for a smoothie and I end up with normal milk instead of rice milk. The staff are lazy and seem troubled when you ask for a table to be cleared before you sit down. It's a mean, tight business.
