Viet Hoa reviews
Started going to this place about a year ago and it was very good value. Unfortunately, in the autumn of 2007 we had 3 really poor meals there on the trot, and the service was awful. In fact, the last evening we were there I'd say many customers walked out. I went again, last Sunday for lunch, as they're the only place that do mock duck in Kingsland Rd, and I fancied it. I have to say, even this was totally deep fried and the whole meal was absolutely awful. The service hadn't improved either. Really disappointed. I was hoping they were just going through a bad patch. The place was virtually empty, when it used to be packed.
by urban-fos, 08 Apr 2008Went there last night. Prices are quite low but the portions are quite small to match. I left still hungry. My meal tasted OK, not dissimilar to a takeaway, but my partner's was completely bland and starchy. A compulsory service charge on top is a bit of a cheek too.
by StillHungry, 16 Mar 2008We ordered several dishes and appetizers, all of which were fresh and delicious. The wine was decent, the service was great and it does offer value for money.
by Petacake, 07 Oct 2007The food was absolutely disgusting. What used to be delicious food is being replaced with pre-prepared frozen food. Service poor. It's a shame for Vietnamese food.
by sanjay, 20 Jun 2007In my opinion the food has been going down hill since they opened the downstairs section (about 4-5 years ago). The herbs are getting less, and at times Vietnamese mint has been replaced by normal mint. During busy periods, the herbs are not even served! I used to go to this place regularly in my university days but sorry, it's no longer for me.
by Chubby Panda, 08 Feb 2007Been there so many times now and never had a bad meal, even when it was busy as hell. Nice staff, they don't rush you, and the food is to die for (salt and pepper squid and Bunh Xa with beef is my choice of the day).
by Anonymous, 03 Nov 2006Great on a weeknight (less busy and staff more attentive) but still good on a Saturday (gets very busy). Fantastic Vietnamese food and very low prices. Not a place for a cosy posy or romantic dinner but great for cheap grub with good mates before/after other venue!
by Tikka, 04 Apr 2006The best Vietnamese restaurant in London. It's authentic, with a very calm environment and relaxing music to go with the superb value food. There are so many different dishes I can never decide what to have, but I do love the hot and sour soup (they call it 'canh chua').
by huty brown, 30 Nov 2005Don't be put off by the exterior. Inside it is wonderful with an excellent choice on the menu and even some good music in the background. The summer rolls with peanut sauce are classic!
by Anonymous, 29 Oct 2005This restaurant used to be fantastic but it has really lost the plot. What used to be excellent, authentic, delicately spiced dishes are now basically average Chinese-takeaway standard. Stewed gelatinous dishes with limp noodles. The Spring Rolls are really disgusting! All the passion for great food has been lost. Shame.
by food lover (2 reviews), 08 Oct 2005if you want to eat authentic, delicious Vietnamese food - this is the place! The Pho is mouth-watering good... and you can't beat the price.
