Angela Flanders reviews

This is one of my top places in London. A delightful little shop with wonderfully friendly and chatty staff, selling gorgeous candles and scents. A brilliant place to find gifts for friends but, even better, you will always find a treat for yourself.

Top tip: visit Angela Flanders shop on Columbia Road in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The atmosphere in the flower market and the shop is heavenly. My Christmas always starts there!

Just visiting the shop makes you feel special and the fragrances are affordable so you always feel able to treat yourself or a friend. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is a real gem of the east end and well worth a visit on a Sunday. It's the highlight of my visits to Columbia Road.

Just visiting the shop feels like a luxury in itself. The shop is beautifully presented with great attention to detail and of course smells amazing. The pefumes and candles make beautiful, unique gifts are are not over-priced. The staff are very friendly and helpful and Angela herself is often there to answer questions. The shop is only open on a Sunday (or by appointment) but this gives you a great opportunity to check out the Flower Market outside while you are there.

Like the perfumers of a forgotten age, Angela Flanders shop is a temple of scents. Every concoction is like a spell which will seduce you into a world of dreams. It is so far removed from the world of modern perfumes, making the scents you might find in the perfume section of any department store seem like products from a fast food chain - indeed, when you have quality independent perfumers like Angela Flanders, then you are reminded that more well known brands are just this - well-marketed, over-produced, conveyor belt smells to suit this conveyor belt age. Go to see Angela if you believe in alchemy.
