Duke's Head reviews
DON'T GO... I knew from the moment we stepped inside that it was a mistake to have booked our birthday in the Duke's Head. The place stank of urine and stale beer. When we got to the 'private room' we had hired it just seemed like an extension of the pub, although instead of a bar there were a couple of stall tables that made it look more like a school fete than a pub. To top this off, the room already had people neither of us knew drinking in it, and this was only to get worse later on in the evening. I don't mind sharing the room with randoms per se, but when it is advertised as a private room and you put a deposit down for it you do expect that it might just be you and your friends in there.
To conclude, it would have been more fun, cheaper and less stress to have just gone to the main body of the pub. I recommend avoiding the Duke's Head altogether actually, and going to the Boathouse instead. It has a nicer atmosphere, is better located and the staff are a heck of a lot friendlier.

I hired the function room upstairs here for 30 close friends and the guys at the Duke's did us proud. The room was stunning and the food was delicious, staff were really friendly, then we went down to the basement bar afterwards and... I can't remember the rest of the evening!!
