Simplicity, comfort and tradition are the focus of this relaxed public house. The leather sofas, cosy dining area, and sheltered patio and garden of The Commander create an unpretentious retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. A Modern British menu combines traditional pub treats with more creative dishes. The Commander Bar now also boasts The Vignette, a wine lounge and tasting venue for up to 14 people, with a choice of over 100 varieties of wine.
The Commander reviews
This is a good place to come if you have children, as it has a free creche upstairs at the weekends. I've had some nice lunches here with friends of mine who also have kids; they go off and play while we enjoy a relaxing meal.

Had dinner here last week. Was great! Had springbok and tuna and both were amazing. The service was really good as well. I'm really surprised about the reviews. I'd recommend this place to everybody!

This has to be possibly the worst dining experience
I have had. Poor service does not begin to describe how pitiful this pub is. Don't go if you have children, don't go if you are disabled (disabled toilet is a store room without even a working light), don't go if you want good food (Sunday lunch for 3 without gravy??) Very sad, as it looks so promising, has a great look and could have been amazing. Go somewhere else!

Terrible! Do NOT be fooled by this well presented 'gastro pub'. Overpriced and the worst customer service I have ever encountered in London. A catalogue of errors:
- we waited 35 mins for our meal;
- they poured the smallest glass of wine I have ever seen but never gave me an option of a small or large glass and still charged £5.50 for it;
- I ordered the chicken breast and chorizo, which was chicken thigh with no chorizo. When I complained about the missing chorizo he went to the kitchen and came back assuring me there was chorizo in the chef's mix!?! All well and good but there was NONE on my plate. Finally after much arguing with the waiter he agreed to return it to add chorizo;
- he then produced an extra glass of wine for me as an apology but then proceeded to charge us for it!
This is the first review I have ever written, that's how strongly I feel about this horrible place!

Went on a Sunday at 12pm. There was lots of space available; however, we only ordered after about 10 minutes waiting at the table and then proceeded to wait in vain for two salads and one Sunday roast. Two bottles of water and a bread basket later, we asked about our food as we had a 3:15pm flight. Only then (after more than 30 minutes' wait) the waiter came and said that they only serve food that was on the Sunday menu - no salads at all as they were on the bar menu - even though they handed out the menu and confirmed the order initially.
Waiting this time only to THEN tell the customers that they don't serve 2 out of the 3 ordered items is silly at best...
In all, lousy service, ridiculous policies and a menu that doesn't inspire. They've lost me as a customer for good.

We went on a Monday - not a busy day, in fact we were four customers to five staff. Staff and management were happily chatting while no one was at the bar and no one was coming over to take orders. After 15 minutes of waiting, we just left and politely said 'bye. But, even then, staff and management ignored us!! Lovely place, can't wait to go back!

We tried to visit this place for lunch on a Sunday at 2pm, but were turned away as we were told the kitchen had 'closed' for the day. In this economic climate you'd swear opening for 2pm lunch customers would be not only smart but essential. I doubt we'll be returning to this highly unreliable restaurant. A shame... as locals, we had high hopes.

What has happened to this place? When I went for a quick drink this week they were closed for building work, but the signs seemed to indicate that it isn't going to reopen as a pub. Strongly suggest phoning ahead before going there.

Never ever have I seen such poor value for money when it comes to food! My Caesar salad was ALL lettuce with a tiny bit of smoked salmon on it, for which I got charged an extra £4! I even had to ask for Parmesan cheese. Calamari is about £6-7 for about 5 tiny rings. I was embarrassed to take my friends there. Way overpriced for the poor quality and the meagre portions. Never again!

Unfriendly rude staff who don't understand the meaning of customer service. 12% service charge added for bar meals.

Very easy and relaxed place. Have been there quite a few times now and always had a good time. I held a small party for around 40 friends and they (the staff) were very accommodating and the atmosphere was great. Recommended.

Went here loads over the summer - a nice, smart but relaxed place without the pretentions of some Notting Hill pubs. The courtyard is a great little sun-trap when the weather is warm.

Good food but poor communication and service (when we finally got our food). Shame, as it could be a great place.

Very cosy pub, loved the leather sofas and cocktail list. Worth a visit.
