Manolo Blahnik reviews
I'm sure that looking the part means everything to those who can't afford to lose face. If you feel that you have to put on the latest season's Chanel just to enter such a store, it would suggest to me that not only are you self-obsessed and shallow but, most importantly, that you have no comprehension of the works of art that are Manolo's shoes.
If you are willing to spend over the odds, then it shouldn’t matter how you dress. In fact, I’d like to see more ‘Clarks’ employees going into such stores in their uniforms than over-the-top dramatists living off their husband's credit cards and/or daddy’s inheritance. These individuals who look down their noses at people who can in fact afford the likes of Blahnik but choose to wear casual clothing should be equally criticised. Why should everyone adopt the attitude of the likes of the sales assistant from ‘Pretty Woman’ (i.e. because you don’t look the part, you must not be able to afford it)?
It shouldn’t matter if you're rich or just saving up to treat someone special. Enjoy the shoes, Manolo’s work, and forget about the hit or miss reception at the store.
I haven't visited the London store, but it does occur to me that if you want to turn up to a high class shop such as this and try on some gorgeously expensive designer shoes, that perhaps it wouldn't be too much to ask to dress the part! If you feel comfortable dagging around in Ugg boots and high street jeans, perhaps you should stay a Clarks customer.
by StuartW, 03 Jan 2008I visited the store in July. I arrived to find a queue outside the shop - the summer sale had just started the previous day (wasn't I lucky, considering I'd come all the way from N. Ireland to buy shoes!). After 40 mins' wait, it was my turn to enter the shop. Having heard negative reports re. staff, I must say that was not my experience at all. I met an assistant called Jamie, who was delightful, helpful and good fun. After exchanging cards and buying 2 pairs of shoes, I departed, promising on my next visit to bring a cake!
by Jenny's Cakes NI, 27 Nov 2007Being a student, I certainly don't give off the impression of being someone with money to burn, but I have always found the service there excellent! My parents (yet again, not covered in diamonds, Chanel and Prada) took me there for the first time over a year ago and we were given lots of help. The staff even remember me every time I have been in since (I like to save up then splurge on Manolos!). I think the service is much more one-on-one than in other stores (e.g. Jimmy Choo) and it is a fantastic experience. Bring on the January sale!
To those who have written negative reviews, have you considered the possibility it's not the staff but you being rude and obnoxious? God knows, there's been a few acting like that when I've been in!
The door was opened for my wife and I as we arrived in the cab. We'd already bought a pair of Choos and were impressed by the selection, quality and style of the Manolos. The girl was very helpful, friendly and accommodating and we ended up buying 2 expensive but unique pairs of shoes. They are stunningly beautiful and we will be going back when next in London.
by maneman, 29 Sep 2007Disgraceful! The staff have major attitude problems. Why look down on people? We know what you earn, you have no idea what I earn. You only work there. You can't afford the shoes, I can. So don' t treat me like shit because I don't wear a ball gown and carry a bag of diamonds every day of my life! Don't go to this shop! They could have got thousands out of me and instead got this review. Sort your staff out Manolo!!
by Elizabeth_Chelsea, 10 Sep 2007I rang during the week to find out opening times for Saturday but when I went to the store (about 2pm) I found it closed. Don't they feel a need to stick to their opening times? After reading all these bad reviews about bad service, I think I'll wait till I go to New York to get my first pair!
by maisey (3 reviews), 06 Aug 2007That's the thing about shops in Chelsea, I happen to have walked in one day with my new 2.55 limited edition Chanel bag, and Wham! every sales assistant is my best friend.
I can understand sales staff, with wages dependent on commission, are bound to be nicer to those who look the part. And Manolo is no different. As for the shoes, they are just divine and beat the socks off Jimmy Choos.
After MUCH lusting after the shoes, I finally went to the store yesterday with the intention to buy a pair. The service was great. I was not snobbed off at all, quite the contrary. The guy working there was very nice and sweet and treated me right even though I certainly didn't 'look the part' and was wearing clunky Clarks clogs. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything that really caught my eye so I left empty-handed; however, the assistant told me they change the entire selection in February and August and that I should go back in August and maybe I'd have better luck. Great experience - I am definitely going back!
by JuneHawk (2 reviews), 05 Apr 2007When a shop has a sign outside saying 'open till 5pm' and 3 customers are turned away at 4.45 and told to come back on Monday, I think that's pretty poor to say the least. But not to worry, we went to Harrods and spent £1100 on Jimmy Choos.
The whole experience was fantastic from the moment the door opened until the minute I left the shop (clutching my first ever pair). The guys in the shop could not have been more lovely and, even though I may not have looked 'the part' and was wearing my Next High Street boots, I was made to feel special.
by Anonymous, 20 Mar 2007Have just visited as a surprise birthday treat and I found the service great. The staff were very helpful and not at all pushy. It's a small store and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The shoes themselves are just fab - elegant and beautiful designs.
by anon23, 21 Aug 2006As a 40th birthday treat I went to buy my first pair. Two members of staff were both dealing with the only other customer and until I flipped off the Choos that I was wearing they showed no interest. The attention I eventually did get was excellent but the experience had already been spoilt. I have heard that the New York shop is excellent, so apart from snobbery what's the excuse?
by shoequeen, 30 Jun 2006Although I love Blahniks designs, I found the sales staff in the London store very, very snooty.
Although I didn't "dress for the occasion" I was treated very badly I left with five pairs just to say ***-you! I have a very good job and after all it is just a shop! And they just work there! They don't own the place, so why the attitude? Enough said.
I visited his shop last week. The shoes are very amazing. Great Manolo, you can make every woman feel like a star! I bought a pair of shoes...of course!
by gengia, 02 Apr 2006I found the service poor and the staff unhelpful. Not a patch on the New York store which was an amazing experience... so much so that I treated myself to 2 pairs of fabulous shoes! The staff in the London store would do well to visit, look and learn.
by Carrieanne, 30 Mar 2006Very poor service, unhelpful and rude! Shoes were left lying around in an uncared for mess on the floor, and the customers seemed to be treated with even less care. A real shame because the shoes are great.
by Ferdi, 29 Mar 2006I visited the shop with the full intention of buying a pair of shoes. However, as we didn't "look" right the service was poor and unhelpful. I would have expected a lot more from the staff when making an investment in an iconic pair of shoes.
I came away with some fantastic shoes, and would love another pair, but was totally disappointed with the staffs snooty manner.
Have we missed a great shoe shop in London? Let us know.
