Erected to mark the Millennium, the London Eye is now an instantly recognisable feature of the central London skyline. This giant rotating wheel is 450ft high, with 32 glass capsules that can each hold 25 people. A ‘flight' (the Eye is sponsored by British Airways) takes half an hour and offers superb views over the heart of London and beyond.

London Eye reviews

I think it's really good. It has a great view and I hope it will stay there for a very long time.

I just loved the London Eye. It is kept clean and in good condition. It is comfortable and the view is great. A lot better than I thought it would be.

Fantastic! Never a dull moment. Wish it took longer to make a circuit - time passes too quickly.

I was doubtful about this during the planning stages, but have come to love it. Great way to spend 30 minutes and get an alternative perspective on London's geography, as long as you avoid the queues. I know you can book in advance, and this may allow you to jump some queues, but the best way is just to turn up at unpopular times - I've usually visited late evening during the week and have never queued for more than 10 mins.

After somehow neglecting to go on the London Eye for nearly 3 years I finally went 2 weeks ago. We met for dinner at a tapas bar in The Cut and after a few drinks it seemed like a fun thing to do before moving on to a bar. No problem getting tickets (5 min queue), and another 5 minutes queuing for the ride. This was about 9pm on a Wednesday - I expect it's busier during the day and at weekends.

The scale and engineering is simply amazing - the structure, egg-shaped pods and prime location mean this is something I plan to take all future out-of-town visitors on and which all Londoners should be proud of.

We were fortunate in that it was a relatively clear night when we went - I spent the whole ride (15 minutes?) picking out areas I knew and marvelling at the wonderful views of London. As well as gaining a new perspective on the shape and size of London I was surprised to see that I could easily see the constant light of 3 or 4 planes lining up to land at Heathrow, as well as the hills of Greenwich, Hampstead and other geographical features of London which ones tends to miss at ground level.

It might just be a be a big wheel, but it reminded me why I live in this amazing city and I'd recommend it to anybody.

All Londoners should go on the Eye twice - once in the day and another time at night when its dark.

The Eye is in the same architectural league as 'The Gherkin' and cheers me up everytime I see it giving some curves to the angular London skyline.

Fun to take visiting friends and relatives on a ride, but it can also be a gorgeously romantic pre-dinner spin with 'The One' ;-)

You know, this is hype. Okay, the views are great when you eventually get to the top.

But the long queues and Bast**d Airways logos all over the place send me the other way.

For better views cross the river to Millbank Tower... that's if you plebs can get a top-floor pass.

For more fun, hop on a river boat at the nearby pier. Better yet, take a ride on "The Frog", an amphibious "bus" that drives across Westminster Bridge and then into the the Thames.
