The Gate reviews
The Gate never disappoints - friendly service, delicious food, beautiful setting, not expensive. If you're going to complain about not having meat, the clue is in the description: 'vegetarian restaurant'.

by missfine "top london reviewer" (25 reviews), 19 Jun 2007We felt this restaurant was overrated. Maybe if you're veggie and also perhaps you are never much enamoured by veggie offerings usually around, then you might be impressed. I'm not saying the food wasn't good, it was, but we felt that they tried to be overly fancy, cramming all different things on a plate (and, big deal, what's fancy about pittas and houmous for the Greek dish?), yet hunger-satisfying carbos were lacking and we came away very hungry after a 3-course meal! And the biggest thing lacking was, of course, a great big juicy fat steak on the side of our plates. We are foodies but also meat lovers, so felt the need to scoff a burger on the train home! We did feel the whole experience a disappointment. Also, a scorcher of a day and we had to sit inside, as they were plagued with flying ants outside.
by lovemymeat, 19 Jun 2007Went there a few weeks ago with a few friends. No one managed to find the address in one go - we all had to call each other several times before we found our way. Quite hidden, next to or within a religious setting (which kind of gave me the creeps!).
The staff were friendly and the food was enjoyable (it was the first time that I'd had ONLY a vegetarian choice).
However, the air was a bit stuffy as it was quite warm in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend a small investment in ventilation, or is this a way to increase drink consumption?
Funky decor, excellent ingredients, great menu. Great place for a romantic dinner or with friends. We didn't have reservations and the place was packed, but they found a table for us.
