Steinberg & Tolkien reviews
I love the store and have been going there for years. Yes, it's true that the prices are pretty high lately, but let's remember most of their pieces really are one-offs and should be in museums. I use most of mine while I'm working (singing) and I feel a wonderful sense of nostalgia whenever I'm in my vintage gowns. I miss the old American gentleman, he was really nice. I love the store and hope they remain for many years.

This place always reminds me of public school girls or Sloaney girls who say they love vintage. Totally overpriced, stocks really displayed badly (and vintage clothing that is precious should really be stocked carefully). There are gems here that you could find if you rummage but the price really is astronomical. Just because it says Dior on the tag shouldn't mean they can charge as if it's couture.

I arrived, baby in tow, to a warm welcome and very lovely knowledgeable staff (useful, as I had no clue what I was looking for!) And walked out very happy, feeling looked after and wanting to come back again, thankyou!

What a shame that a previous reviewer didn't like this beautiful shop. Okay, so its lighting is low, but I think it adds to my feeling that I'm in a vintage Aladdin's Cave. When I first visited London I had to seek this place out after reading about it in Vogue. I bought some gorgeous 30s and 40s pieces in excellent condition.

I went to Manolo Blahnik before I went in to Steinberg & Tolkien, because it's just around the corner. I asked the guys at Manolo if they ever shopped at Steinberg and they said "No way, it's way too overpriced and dirty". So I went to check it out and I had to agree with them. It was so dark downstairs - probably so that you couldn't see all the stains on the garments. Go there if you're nearby, but be careful!

Good selection of clothing and accessories. Lovely hats, and a stunning bridal dress in the window. Pricey, but hey -it's Chelsea. Friendly staff.

Originally went in to do research on an art project but got a little side tracked and ended up making a few purchases. Make sure you go when you're not in a rush, so much to see! Staff very helpful and friendly also.

I loved my experience of browsing this enormous treasure trove of fantastic vintage clothing. I purchased an unbelievable Ossie Clark - it's a piece of history of the swinging 60s. Fabulous... don't miss it.

Great for fun window shopping even if you can't afford to buy... they have some amazing things in there. Love the staff - older ladies and fashion students, really friendly and unpretentious.

Amazing shop! The person who said there were Grandmother frocks has no style.

Vintage prom/black tie dress haven... 50s Chanel etc for around the £200/£300 mark. Also head here if you want a Burberry trench with serious knock off price, who cares if someone wore it before you!! Ok it can be pricey but I am finding it hard nowadays to find shops like this one!

I'm loving the place, absolutely marvelous. Brilliant location too. The rummaging factor experienced at most vintage shops is pleasantly low. Found myself a beautiful little Chanel handbag in mint condition and if you're looking for a prom dress this is the place! I love you!

A shop that harps back to the golden days before the Kings Road was overrun by the franchised fashion stores.

Expensive, but helpful staff, some amazing items (if your tastes run similar to theirs) and real bargains in the sale room. Gorgeous beaded items.
