Regent's Park Regent's Park (Park)
25 June 2004

This is the best park in London, with it's boating lake, flower gardens, open-air theatre, sports pitches and bandstand. It hosts some good free festivals in the summer, too. Keep your ear to the ground and don't miss them.

Tate Modern Tate Modern (Public Art Gallery / Tourist Attraction)
25 June 2004

I had membership here for a year, but the members-only bar got so busy that any air of exclusivity vanished. The views from the cafe are great, but not so great if you can't get a seat. The Tate's push for members has been too successful! Can't fault the art, though. A great place to visit -- particularly to check out the massive exhibits on display in the Turbine Hall.

London Aquarium London Aquarium (Tourist Attraction)

One to take the kids to, definitely. There is a great rock-pool room where young ones love to snoop and peer at the starfish, crustaceans etc. And then there are the sharks. Gulp!

Highgate Cemetery (Tourist Attraction)

Well worth seeking out. As well as the various celeb tombs, there are many family plots here which tell their own stories. It's a good place to come and reflect and get away from things.

Imperial War Museum Imperial War Museum (Museum / Tourist Attraction)
25 June 2004

As well as the long-term exhibits, the Imperial War Museum always has an excellent paid-for exhibition on the go about some aspect of war and culture. This summer it's running a D-Day exhibition which I highly recommend.

St Paul's Cathedral St Paul's Cathedral (Tourist Attraction)
25 June 2004

A fantastic space. Be warned, though, if the mood ever takes to roll along to St Pauls for a Christmas Eve service, you'd better arrive really early -- it's gets full up really quickly, despite it's size.

Shakespeare's Globe Shakespeare's Globe (Theatre / Tourist Attraction)
25 June 2004

If you like Shakespeare, you have to see it at the Globe at least once. Stand down at the front to get really involved in the action! The tricky bit in picking the right day weather-wise -- since there's no roof, I wouldn't fancy it on a cold, damp London night.

Open Air Theatre Open Air Theatre (Theatre)
25 June 2004

The theatre also hosts several gigs each summer, which are well worth looking out for. In 2003 I saw Katherine Williams in concert here. On a hot summer night, it was a great place to hear her melodic, intimate music - much better than being stuck in some sweaty indoor venue.

Sagar (Restaurant / Restaurant)
25 June 2004

Another addition to the growing array of South Indian restaurants in London. This place takes its food seriously, with loads of interesting, subtle flavours, putting it a cut above some of the South Indian places on Drummond Street and the Tooting high road. It's pretty cheap, too.

Eat and Two Veg Eat and Two Veg (Restaurant)
25 June 2004

E&2V hasn't been in Marylebone for long, but it's already seems like an old friend. It does seriously big breakfasts and lunches and quick, simple dinners. It's a big menu, so there's loads to choose from, and the restaurant has a nice, intimate feel.

If you're in the area, definitely give it a try .

Manna Manna (Restaurant)
25 June 2004

Manna has a nice, relaxed cafe feel to it, but the food is way beyond 'standard veggie cafe'. It's an eclectic menu, including the restaurant's take on Indian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes, and very few of them miss their mark. Highly recommended.

Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew (Park / Tourist Attraction)
24 June 2004

Kew is great to visit at an time of year, but particularly in the Spring, when it's flowerbeds are in full effect.

One tip is to go in early January and take your Christmas tree there for recycling - they let you into the park for free!

Rasa (Restaurant / Restaurant)
24 June 2004

Rasa specialises in Keralan food, which is vegetarian and invariably delicious! The restaurant itself is on the small side and can get crowded, but it's nicely decorated in pink and has a nice atmosphere.

Rasa is definitely worth a special trip.

T, the original place is crowded and intimate with great food.

Blah Blah Blah (Restaurant)

Lovely to go to a restaurant where the veggie food is neither boring nor overly fussy.

The food is creative whilst also being tasty and very edible, with delicious puddings. I liked the lighting and the byo policy. My only complaint is that I have to travel so far to get to this restaurant and would like to see a similar one open in South London.
