Lab (Bar)
10 October 2006
Aside from the fact that the cocktail staff seriously know their stuff, Lab has a brilliant and scarily extensive menu. Want to fork out £18 for a drink? No problem. Fancy a Solero but can't be arsed to eat an ice cream? They've got one with booze in.
Where it's less than brilliant is, as has already been said, the chronic seating and the music which is a bit crap really. Never mind. If you manage to catch Lab on a quiet evening you'll be spoiled rotten. Otherwise you'd be better off just nipping in for a quick one.
Yauatcha (Restaurant / Restaurant)

While I've never tried the dim sum - I value my limbs and have no wish to sell them for glorified Ping Pong - the teahouse section of Yauatcha is a glory in itself.
Boys: do yourself a favour and bring your lady of choice here next time you've done something wrong or want a shag. The cakes (around £4 each but believe me, totally worth it) are artful and delicious and the tea selection is massive. You can easily waft a modest sum away on trying the cakes and splitting them between you. Your lady and your stomach will thank you for it.

Looks like a particularly over-enthusiastic eBayer has gone on a drunken vintage binge, then added some flaming torches outside the front door for that classy edge.
Very efficient staff bringing a succession of drinks that, while always imaginative, could do with a bit less craziness and rather more control. Mark Thyme has whisky, tarragon and thyme liqueurs - not that you'd notice. Still, nice idea.
Above everything, Loungelover is fantastic for playing Spot The Media Twat. Go on - do it next time. The bloke in the white hat is quite clearly a short film director.
T (Bar)

Brilliant bar, one of my favourites in an area that isn't exactly starved for decent bars. Ignore Loungelover - T's much less pretentious and has excellent drinks. Especially good during the week. If you like cocktails and you're especially nice to the Aussie barman he'll make you off-book drinks which are a-mazing. Just don't expect the other bar staff to make them for you when he's not there, as all you'll get are blank stares.
