Chez Bruce (Restaurant)
26 October 2008
We had a very enjoyable evening at Chez Bruce. Fantastic service, ambience and terrific wine list, sensibly priced by London standards. The food was good but not quite at the level of my previous Michelin experiences, with the exception of the desserts, which were fantastic.
Alba Pizzeria (Pizza Restaurant)

Good value authentic pizza. Recently took an Italian friend, who agreed. Big pizzas, so no need for sides. Been twice now and will be back.
The Fat Delicatessen (Delicatessen)

Great value and quality tapas. Tasty pork belly confit, pate, pot roast chicken, mackerel bruschetta. With coffee for 4, under a tenner each!
Chadwick's Organic Butchers (Butcher)

Excellent quality meat. Only been once but the lamb was the best I've had in the UK. Will be back! It ain't cheap but it's worth it.
The Cow (Pub / Gastro Pub)

Had dinner here recently and the food was of an excellent standard and good value. Oysters were fresh and the pate was outstanding. Mains were also good - venison was cooked perfectly and the crab pasta was very tasty. It is very cramped downstairs and the service was a bit hit and miss, but hey it's a pub and the prices are pretty good. If you want a la carte, go upstairs!
The Baring (Pub)

Great little bar - good beer, friendly bar staff.
The Northgate (Gastro Pub)

Good place for a drink, but food was pretty average. We went there one Sunday afternoon. They had run out of many things on the menu and the roast beef they served up was mediocre. They said they had been busy and they only used fresh ingredients, so that's why they ran out. A well-run kitchen does not run out of half the things on a menu on a Sunday, so I can only assume otherwise. Nice decor and wine list though.
