Charlotte Street (Hotel)
10 July 2006
Last time I went here, I swore it would be my last. I ordered my drinks at the bar and was still asked to pay service charge. For what - glass hire? I know this is happening more and more in London bars but it's an outrageous practice and I'm standing up to it. So my feet (and wallet) will show my disgust and I won't go back.
Destination (Gym)

This is a nice gym - really new equipment and the friendliest, most genuine staff I've ever met. Sadly they don't do classes and the range of weights machines in the upstairs (regular) gym is quite limited. If you have a personal trainer you get to use the much better stocked downstairs gym, which is a bit elitist but understandable. I love the fact that it's quiet, but I doubt that the owners do and suspect that will change soon!
Carluccio's (Cafe / Delicatessen)

Not a bad spot for a quick bight / coffee but the standard is patchy. The last time I went there the toilet was in such a disgusting state it put me off eating there ever again. As Anthony Bourdin says, "if you want to know what the kitchen's like, check out the cleanliness of the toilets. If they can't be bothered to service areas that the public see, behind-the-scenes won't be any better." Enough said, I won't eat there again.
Annex 3 (Bar / Restaurant)

I work nearby and a number of us have visited Annex 3 since it opened. Without exception, we've all found it to be over-hyped and over-priced. Loungelover is fantastic but this one falls way below the mark. The decor is eclectic but unfortunately doesn't quite work. A shame because it's in a great location. No doubt it will be popular with people trying to be fashionable but ultimately it will fall flat because it doesn't have the right mix to last.
