Hazlitt's Hazlitt's (Hotel)
21 December 2009

Several years ago, my husband and I spent a wonderful 8 days at this gem of a hotel. What a pleasant and historic experience. More like a home than a hotel, every afternoon I cosied into the down sofa in front of a gas fire and had tea, cakes and a good read (behind the front desk are books left behind by the authors that are available for your reading pleasure). We met interesting people and the staff are beyond compare. The charm of this hotel is evident in every crooked line and ancient but perfect piece of furniture. Not a plumbline in the place, but that is so fantastic and fairy tale inspiring to us. (Heck, I no longer have a plumbline on my bod and I am only 52!)

If you are looking for top-notch service with a friendly and welcoming attitude, come to Hazlitt's. What a place! We look forward to our return and plan on spending a month en suite. Home away from home, but better!

Bar Italia Bar Italia (Cafe)
21 December 2009

We love Bar Italia! My husband and I spent several days at Hazlitt's, just down the street towards the park, and we went to the Bar several times a day. The staff were all friendly and our coffee and cocoa were always steaming hot. The manager was often concerned when I would show up at 4am. He would watch me walk back to Hazlitt's, and he would always wave as I went inside. He made me feel safe and secure. I adore Bar Italia and its clientele. We met many interesting and talented people at this tiny treasure. Long live Bar Italia!!
