Gourmet Burger Kitchen (Diner)
17 July 2005
I'm not the biggest burger scoffer in the world, but frequently encourage a colleague who seems to live in McDonald's to check this place out instead.
Reasonably priced, good quality meat and decidedly less soulless than your average burger joint.
Open Air Theatre (Theatre)
13 June 2005
I saw a preview of Twelfth Night here earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed both the setting and the performance. I've seen technically better performances, but the magical atmosphere of the theatre made it a night to remember. I'd certainly recommend this to anybody - take a few friends and bottle of wine.
Petersham Nurseries Cafe (Cafe)

I wouldn't usually go out of my way for lunch at a garden centre, but this place is out of this world. Completely feels like you've escaped from Richmond although you're only a stone's throw from the Thames.
The food is superb and the whole place is almost overwhelmingly charming. (Almost) enough to make me want to move to Richmond.
Albannach (Bar)
02 April 2005
Good bar with a bewildering range of whiskies. I took 2 friends who know their whisky very well and they weren't disappointed with the expertise and selection.
The space downstairs looked ok too - a bit more cosy. Staff were friendly and it's a fantastic location.
Fordham Soho (Hair Salon)
27 February 2005
Very cool salon. Friendly staff, good service and it's a nice touch to offer you a beer or glass of wine whilst having your hair done. Prices are average for a decent salon in central London - I think my haircut was around £38 and I was happy with the results.
Chelsea Gardener (Garden Centre)
19 December 2004
Very upmarket and not cheap, but the products are good and the service friendly. There's also an area with other shops and a few bars and restaurants adjoining it, so it's something of a destination in itself and can be fun to take the family on a weekend.
Baker and Spice (Baker / Delicatessen)
19 December 2004
Love the pastries and deli snacks here and it's generally a nice place to stop off for breakfast or a coffee with friends whilst in the area. Quite an upmarket crowd sat outside during good weather, as you'd expect given the location.
Axis (Restaurant)
19 December 2004
Had a few very enjoyable meals here with friendly and polite service. The dining room is a bit plain but is brought to life by the huge 3D perspective painting along one wall. The food has always been great and the bar overlooking the restaurant is also very pleasant.
Asia de Cuba (Restaurant / Restaurant)
19 December 2004
I generally enjoy Schrager hotel restaurants, but this one wasn't my favourite. As you'd expect it looks pretty amazing but the shared plate concept and the actual dishes didn't do it for me. The hotel is great, as is the Light bar, but I'd recommend Spoon+ at the Sanderson if you want to eat at one of their restaurants in London.
Alastair Little (Restaurant)

Great food, a good wine list and efficient service in the middle of Soho. I keep forgetting it when people are asking for lunch suggestions around here but it's really quite hard to fault - I'd recommend it to anybody.
Elbow Room (W2) (Bar)
17 December 2004
Great concept and well worth a visit. Unpretentious friendly place to have a drink with mates and shoot a few rounds. Music's good but can be a bit loud.
Twenty Twenty-one (Furniture / Design Shop)
13 November 2004
Eclectic range of wonderful objects - definitely worth a visit.
Angels (Fancy Dress Shop)
13 November 2004
Best fancy dress in London - I look them up every year around this time in anticipation of the office party. Their best costumes aren't cheap, but they're really helpful and I've always been happy with the results.
Cinnamon Club Bar (Bar)
13 November 2004
Very cool bar in a fantastic restaurant. Cocktails here were some of the best I've tried.
Embassy (Club)
13 November 2004
I've had some fairly big nights here - good place to eat and then party downstairs. Have to say though, last time I was there the DJ couldn't mix - he messed the evening up for a lot of us.
Oliver Sweeney (Men's Shoe Shop)
13 November 2004
The best looking, most comfortable casual shoes I've ever owned - can't recommend Sweeney highly enough.
