If you like people watching try Bar Italia. Also great for motorbikes. I think it's wednesday night when they all roar up and pose! The food isn't great but the coffee is definitely the best and it's a good spot for the end ish of a perfect date…

I do not begrudge paying £2.40 for tea - it's a pot, actually, and you get at least three cups! I too have long visited Bertaux's (over a period of at least 26 years) and remember Madame et Monsieur, the original owners before Michelle and Johan took it over. I too would be devastated to ever lose this tiny treasure in the heart of London. The almond croissants are without parallel, and the Dijon slice delicious.

A really beautiful shop. I particularly like the the rose milk chocolate - subtle, and not too sweet.
