Broadway Market (Food Market)

This seems to be an amalgamation of the best of every London market but without the crowds, hype or rising prices. I love this market and always seem to part with far more than I intended, but then I go home with so much more than Borough would bequest for the same money. Try the spit roast pig, the pickles made and sold for charity, the gorgeous little cakes and the handmade/recycled bookstall. I'm still discovering the wonderful range of thoughtful yet not tree-hugging children's and eco-aware shops that line the market. An absolute gem.

I often retire here after a stint in Broadway Market - the food is spectacular. The rabbit-warren restaurant area always feels warm and inviting and the food is always a joy. They have 5 or 6 sausage and mash options (duck, beef, chicken, pork etc etc, each made with a coordinating beer) as well as a wide range of hearty fare that is always satisfying without being stodgy. Fish pie, game pie, chicken salad, chestnut pate have all been winners. Wonderful in the winter - can't wait to see how it feels in the summer...
