It goes without saying that the Louvre is one of the most important museums in the world. The building itself started life as a fortress and developed from there, with more wings opened in 1993 (some of which didn’t even have electricity until then). There are nowadays eight departments, which keep a total of 35,000 works displayed in over 60,000 square metres of space.
